The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Wed 12/14/05)
Wait

Wait, for now.
Distrust everything, if you have to.
But trust the hours. Haven't they
carried you everywhere, up to now?
Personal events will become interesting again.
Hair will become interesting.
Pain will become interesting.
Buds that open out of season will become lovely again.
Second-hand gloves will become lovely again,
their memories are what give them
the need for other hands. And the desolation
of lovers is the same: that enormous emptiness
carved out of such tiny beings as we are
asks to be filled; the need
for the new love is faithfulness to the old.

Wait.
Don't go too early.
You're tired. But everyone's tired.
But no one is tired enough.
Only wait a while and listen.
Music of hair,
Music of pain,
music of looms weaving all our loves again.
Be there to hear it, it will be the only time,
most of all to hear,
the flute of your whole existence,
rehearsed by the sorrows, play itself into total exhaustion.

Galway Kinnell

10. Patience is the problem.
But linking it to music is brilliant, because THAT I understand.

You're the best, P. :hug::loveya:

And I hope that today is filled with wonder, excitement, and possibilities for you.

and treacherous driving! I need to drive home this afternoon for the kid's Christmas Concert, then tonight I need to drive to Racine. I hope the road crews are working at clearing my roads for me :D

12. Well, maybe your tow-truck driver will be a foxy babe.
They don't know what's going to happen here. One report says 1-3 inches, another 2-6 inches.

Doesn't bother me. Inches never matter - it all depends on how it's coming. ;)

13. Gasping gods! This is an artist!
Thank you, RL. How did you find this? This poet said outrageous things to me in such a perfect context that understanding and informing was simultaneous. I'm doing the "shock of cold water" and heavy sigh thing, too.

Awesome poem for me! I think it sounds good for you, too. All my good thoughts come your way. Safe travel to you also. :pals:

15. Yeah, I read this last night and gasped.
So I read it out loud and gasped again. Took my breath away.

This one called to me to share it...

"the need for the new love is faithfulness to the old." I love that line; love the whole poem. There is hopefulness in this piece. Thank you!
