This has to be the worlds most perfect song:All of a Sudden by XTC
I've been enjoying XTC all over again since I downloaded one of my favorite vinyls from my youth. But I have been listening to this song over and over and the song is just so fricking perfect. Amazing guitar work, really smooth, catchy rhythm and even great lyrics.

Great music and yes, once again another XTC thread. But this is a song you should have in your collection. It's near perfection when it comes to a song. At least in my opinion it is

What can I say?
Why do we starve a thing thats near extinction?
From day to day,
These weeds of fear,
Are choking our conviction,
Life's like a jig-saw,
You get the straight bits,
But there's something missing in the middle.

All of a sudden,
We find the cupboard's bare.
All of a sudden,
We find heaven's not there.
All of a sudden,
We find the sun's gone cold.
All of a sudden
We find we're more than old.
All of a sudden,
We find that we've lost love,
So please don't push or shove because,
It's too late,
It's too late,
In all your hurry you've accidentally locked the gate

What can we do?
Trying to stem the flow of sand is useless.
It's up to you start holding hands,
And watch the balance redress,
Life's like a firework,
You're only lit once,
And you must stand and radiate correctly.

All of a sudden,
We find the cupboard's bare.
All of a sudden,
We find heaven's not there.
All of a sudden,
We find the sun's gone cold.
All of a sudden
We find we're more than old.
All of a sudden,
We find that we've lost love,
So please don't push or shove because,
It's too late,
It's too late,
In all your hurry you've accidentally locked the gate

Love's not a product you can hoard or pack a suitcase with,
It's more a way you have to give.

All of a sudden,
We find the cupboard's bare.
All of a sudden,
We find heaven's not there.
All of a sudden,
We find the sun's gone cold.
All of a sudden
We find we're more than old.
All of a sudden,
We find that we've lost love,
So please don't push or shove because,
It's too late,
It's too late,
In all your hurry you've accidentally locked the gate your hurry you've accidentally locked the gate.

1. Here's an XTC site that's been around since 1991.
http://chalkhills.org/

And here's the page on "All of a Sudden (It's Too Late)" from the same site.

Enjoy.

BTW, I'm one of the few Yanks who has had the pleasure of seeing XTC live. Three times in fact. Best band of musicians ever. Really amazing when you consider that they're still at it, but hardly anyone knows.

2. I'm downloading Black Sea and Skylarking as we speak
I had some giftcards for Sony's music sight and figured I'd download them. I really haven't listened much to XTC since way back in highschool when I bought English Settlement because of some boy I met in Chicago who was really into them. That was way back in 11th grade.

But I still have the vinyl and now with modern technology I'm owning most of the other songs to boot!

4. Don't miss out on Nonsuch...
It's a later album, but it really is fantastic, and has some of the smartest pop song writing of the 90s. Of course there are a few overwrought bits here and there, but that's XTC - a little bit of chaff here and there, but a heaping helping of tasty wheat!

3. That song slays me every time....
A definite favorite from English Settlement, along with Snowman and Melt the Guns.

I could go on and on, but I'll just have to say that they've had a huge influence on the music I've made since way back when.

5. The other 2 songs are great but....
...it's just something about the combination of this amazing guitar work, lyrics and hypnotizing beat that drawls me into the song that makes me want to listen to it again and again and again. Hell even with the most beloved Zeppelin tunes I'm ready for the next song when the current one is done.

And this song has put me in great spirits - I've been dancing in my living room with my jammings and just soaking up life for all it's worth. Only a really damn good song can put you in such a mood as this!
