My father, former hard ass now a cat owner
let me give you the spec on my dad, 65 years old, 2 tours in Vietnam flying supply runs, put himself through college while working 2 jobs and is an avid gun collector. Growing up he was not the person you went to for a hug--ever, but if you had a calculus problem or needed advice on an engineering issue well then he was your guy. So 2 years ago my step mother "Found" a stray cat in Vermont, she brings it home and my father wants nothing to do with it "Find it a home, not this home" Well seems Arlo, yes he now had a name became quite enamored of my father, he followed him around, purred loudly and stuck to him like glue and thats when things changed. Here we are 2 years later, my dad got Arlo a sister "He's needs a buddy, i don't won't him to be lonely when we're not home" WTF??? When i went home to Boston for a visit i stayed in what i thought was the guest room---wrong---it is "Arlo's room" and he was very upset i was staying in there with the door closed--"You've upset the cat" WTF???? Anyhow i got a card today from my dad, it was a picture of him, my step-mom and yes the 2 cats, all wearing Santa hats.

I blame you people here, yes thats right, it's through osmosis from DU, your devotion to your cats somehow went through me and landed on him.:D

1. grandchildren and pets mellow out even the angriest
my grandfather was a serious hard ass, a veteran of WWII in the fucking Soviet Army. But he adored cats, and when he got old mellowed out. Now, when my mom was growing up, he was harsh to the point of physically abusive and was known as a hitter. But I remember him as being the most gentle, mellow old man. And he had to have three cats at all times. He thought that was the perfect balance of cats.

2. awwwwwwwww What a good story.
Cats can do that to you. When I was first married, my husband didn't want to have anything to do with getting a cat. Hated them. Of course, I went to the animal shelter and got one anyway. That afternoon, my husband feel asleep on the couch. When he woke up, an adorable fuzzy little kitten was sleeping on his chest. He opened his eyes, and the rest is history. We have four cats now.

5. Awwww!!! That's so cute!
I always say people who think they don't like cats have never gotten to know a cat. To know them is to love them. :)
