I don't even want to think about what a porn movie about horses would be so... um... family oriented if that's my only other option. :)

Great movie, although not for kids.

42. Yup. I thought Hidalgo was pretty good.
Perhaps it would be OK for older kids--and their parents.

LOTR featured lots of horse action. And the Extra Feature on "Horses in Middle Earth" was pretty interesting. Scruffy Viggo spending quality time with Brego & buying a stallion for the stunt riding lady only increased my admiration.

21. "Casey's Shadow" (came out in the 70s don't know if it's still around)
Walter Matthau was in it as I recall.

"Dreamer" is the new Dakota Fanning flick out -- I haven't seen it.

"Spirit" is the animate Disney movie about a wild stallion that came out a couple years ago.

If you haven't seen it, get it.

I feel about horses the way cat people feel about cats. They're wonderfully introverted animals who are nervous and doubtful by nature, but they are loyal and affectionate to those who take the time to get to know them. They're made to run, and they are a thing of power to ride and beauty to watch.

24. The Horse Whisperer...
And might consider buying the person a Breyer horse, too, if they're young enough (age 3 or 4 to 17 or 18).

Good Luck!

Their Christmas horse this year is absolutely gorgeous.

And The Horse Whisperer is an excellent movie.

36. Wow, cool!
If you ever want to know how much some are worth, just let me know. I've been collecting them for over 10 years and can give you an honest estimate for what a collector would pay :) Sometimes when people find out what they are worth, they'll either sell them or protect them that much more!

I keep them up high on top of a shelf to keep them safe from my kids. Sometimes I let my daughter play with them but then put them back up.

Though I've shifted more into ceramics like Laf'n Bear chinas, Hagen Renakers, Pour Horses, and Alchemy.

And yes, the Christmas horse is lovely! I personally love the gold horseshoes :)

25. El Caballo Blanco (Mexican, 1962)
Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 08:09 PM by Xipe Totec
A Mexican Movie, based on a 'corrido', or ballad:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055818/

This is the ballad of the white horse,
that on a Sunday took off joyfully
he left with the goal to reach northern lands
having left his home in Guadalajara.

His noble rider took off the reins
took of his saddle and rode him bare backed
he crossed Nayaritan lands like lightning
between green hills and under blue skies.

He reached Escuinapa, at a slower pace
and in Culiacán he almost surrendered,
they say in Los Mochis he nearly fell
and he was bleeding from the mouth.

But he was seen passing Sonora
and in the Yaqui valley they tended his wounds
they say he was limping from his left leg
but despite this he kept to his quest.

He reached Hermosillo, and Caborca next
and by Mexicali, he felt he was dying
step by step he climbed Rumorosa mountains
reaching Tijuana by the light of dawn.

With triumph in sight he crossed Rosarito
and refused to fall till he reached Ensenada,
this is the ballad of the white horse
that left Guadalajara one Sunday morn.

27. What age group?
Aside from some of the ones already listed, there are a couple kids movies. Two Bits and Pepper would be suitable for say 6 - 10 year olds. Into the West would appeal to kids maybe a bit older. Neverending Story has a good bit with Atreus and Artax. The Last Unicorn isn't really about a horse but it's probably close enough for kids.
