How far back in your life can you remember? (To what age?)
I'm 45 and I can remember back to when I was 4, I bought a hamburger for 10 cents at the snack bar at the golf course my Dad played at, he gave me the dime and they all thought I was so cute, buying a hamburger at age 4. But I can't remember anything before that.

2. I remember one incident from when I was about 18 months old......
I told it to my mom, and she confirmed that I was accurately seeing/describing the scene as I experienced it:

My mom and I were living with my grandparents (my dad had been drafted into the Army).

I remember crawling down a hallway to a glass-paned door with a glass doorknob. I tried to reach it, and couldn't. I cried, and someone came and got me.

I saw that house a few years back and it was as I'd remembered it.

4. Toddlerhood, under 2 yrs old.
I'm 41 and I remember sitting in my blue highchair with my Dr. Denton jammies on.

I remember seeing the 4th of July fireworks in NY city when I was three with my Dad.

Mostly my memories are just little snippets, nothing really long or detailed.

It's funny how memory works....or doesn't, as Time marches on....

Yeah, it's a trip gettin' older.
:hi:

6. I remember some things from age 2...
like potty training, oddly enough. I guess because it's a milestone in a kid's life.

I remember finding a nasty magazine of my dad's, and asking him why the women in it were tied up. He answered that they were bad, which kind of freaked me out. The next day, my mom had a little fire in the fireplace.

8. I remember a few things
from when I was younger than 2, but they're sorta vague. One was when I was sick — colicky or something, because I was crying — and my mom wasn't home, and I really wanted her instead of my dad. I can remember him holding me in the middle bedroom and me looking toward the front door for mom, and crying my little eyes out.

OTOH, I remember very little of the period from about 1975-1989.

11. I remember just a few little things,
like sitting on my dad's lap going down the road in his racing kart. Later I saw the old home movie put on video of it, and I was 2.

I remember my neighbor coming home from Vietnam, I was 4. My grandfather died that year, and I remember my mom telling me.

I saw a young boy hit and killed by a car, I was 5.

I seem to remember bad things.

12. 6 months and on
being silly and chewing and drooling all over a piece of zwiebach toast while sitting in the red high chair and laughing while my picture was taken.

Had one memory come to me in a dream when I was in my early teens. Shared the dream with my mom and she told me that what I dreamed was exactly how things happened. I was just over 4 months old when the event happened in real life, and in my dream I was being held by my mom during the scene that played out.

13. My first memory dates to before I was 2.
I know this because we moved into the house where I grew up on my second birthday. I distinctly remember moving into that house.

I had a particular memory that always stuck in my mind, and as an adult, when I was given a family album after the death of my father, I recognized the tile pattern on the floor of my parents apartment. Thus I can fairly certainly date the memory.

My mother was wearing curlers. I was playing with blocks.

14. I remember climbing up on the sideboard in the dining room
to look out the windows into the backyard.

My mother saw me and immediately ran to grab me, because I was walking around amidst some heirloom china. There was an antique coffee pot that came up to my knees.

Mom remembers the incident as well and tells me that I was about two when it happened.

19. My earliest memory is from when I was barely two.
I think I remember it because it was such a trauma.

My dad and my grampa were building a screened porch on the back of our house. I came out the back door and tripped, landing on some cement blocks they had on the lawn. I hit my mouth pretty badly.

I remember my dad scooping me up - I can still feel the sensation of being lifted - and running into the house calling for my mother. I can hear the sound of footsteps and feeling confused as he handed me off to her.

I hit my mouth in such a way that the permanent tooth still embedded up in my gums was damaged. When it came in some years later, it was bruised.

There are some vague memories in my brain from when I was three, but my most clear memories after the porch incident start when I was four.

28. You just reminded me of something
I somehow forgot earlier. I was 2, and my sister was pushing me on a tricycle along one of the concrete strips in our back yard. The front wheel hit a rock or something, the trike did a reverse wheelie and I went flying over the bars, and split a front tooth when I hit face-first on the strip.

It was a Sunday, but my folks found a pediatric dentist who did emergency work. All I remember is crying a whole lot... and having to wear a "spacer" until the permanent tooth came in.

20. Must have been just under three
I remember sitting in my undies on the front porch of our house on Granger Street, looking at the funnies in the Sunday Detroit News ("reading" the paper would be a bit of a stretch). I remember the date "1959" very clearly -- but I don't remember the date or what the funnies were, or anything else except "1959" as part of the date.
Since it was warm enough for me to be outside in my undies and since my birthday is in October, I must've been just under three.
John
Mom swore I was drinking a beer (honest!) as they pulled into the driveway following church -- but I don't remember that part. Maybe that was a different day/date, but we moved into this house (on Eleanor) in 1961 -- so it couldn't have been too much later.

21. 4 consistently, but many memories are definitely from 3,
and some must be earlier - including what I consider the earliest - being accidentally stuck with a diaper pin while being changed on my parents' bed.

25. To just under a year old...
...Around the time I learned to walk, I stayed at a sitter's house -- a middle-aged woman who watched several college students' children during the day -- while my parents were in class.

In my mid-20s, I shocked my mother by describing in great detail the exterior and interior of that house.

I have more memories from that period, some clearer than others.

I was supposed to be taking a nap, but I got up and squirted Johnson's Baby Lotion all over my bedroom window. Boy was my mom pissed.

27. For about twenty years
my earliest memory has been of one event on the first day of Kindergarten, and I am probably remembering other times that I have remembered that event rather than the actual event itself, but then there is mostly a huge gap until the apocalyptic spelling bee in the 2nd grade, except for waiting to see Bobby Kennedy at the airport.

29. I have a vivid impression...
it makes no sense, because I think I was way too young. But I remember Mom & Dad watching TV - someone died, and they both were crying. I said "no cry, mommy"...and ran into her arms.

If it was Nov 1963, I would have been 11 months old. I know that I was barely walking, holding on to the coffee table.

Can someone really remember back that far?

30. 3 years 4 months is the first specific memory
My mom was in the hospital and had just given birth to my sister a day or so earlier. They had the mother stay in the hospital for several days in that era. I was in the backyard with my dad and we were barbequing after just coming home from the hospital. A neighbor woman saw me from the sidewalk and asked about my mom and the baby. I remember trying to answer then running to get my dad so he could talk to her.
