Anybody ever had Boiled Custard?
I'm not talking pie, or flan, or anything like that.

We used to have this stuff for the holidays. It is egg noggish, but not egg nog really. I can remember my Dad and his cousin trying to remember "how mama made it at home" on the farm in Bluff Dale, TX.

It was made in a big stockpot and had milk, cream, eggs, all that low cholesterol stuff :) and maybe some cornstarch. It was thick and warm and GOOOOOOOD!

If anybody has a recipie for Boiled Custard please let me know. I have my mother's old recepie box, but I can't find it.

1. We use boiled custard to make banana pudding.
I don't know if it's exactly what you're talking about.

My grandma's boiled custard recipe:

4 eggs
1 cup sugar
4 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Combine eggs, sugar, and milk in a double boiler. Cook mixture until it coats a spoon. Remove from stove. Add vanilla.

Of course, then if you go on to make banana pudding, you just layer vanilla wafers, banana slices, and the boiled custard in a bowl until you run out.

2. Nope, never heard of it, being "boiled", that is, but it sounds yummy.
Custard, in all it's denominations, is True Comfort Food.

:hi:

4. Here's one I found.
BOILED CUSTARD EGGNOG

Recipe By :
Serving Size : 12 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Beverages

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 1/2 c Sugar
1/4 c Flour
1/8 ts Salt
8 Egg yolks
6 c Milk
2 c Light cream
1 t Vanilla extract
1/8 ts Nutmeg
1 1/2 c Whiskey (optional)

Mix sugar, flour, and salt in heavy 6-qt saucepan. Add egg yolks and mix
well. Using wire whisk, stir egg mixture and slowly pour in milk and
cream. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until custard is thickened
and just coats the back of a wooden spoon. Remove from heat and let cool.
The custard will thicken as it cools. When cold, stir in vanilla, nutmeg,
and whiskey.
