7. WHATUPPPP? I saw a Bald Eagle sitting up on top of a dead tree today.

Until seven years ago, I'd never seen a real live Bald Eagle in my life, only those in pictures, moving or otherwise.

Seven years ago, I was watching my son practice soccer near the Matanzas River when I saw a Bald Eagle zoom (they are really fast when they want to be!) up river. What a thrill!

A few years later, I saw some immature Bald Eagles flying near another river not far from downtown.

My tour guide husband pointed out another Bald Eagle sitting on the highest (and least attainable) place to a group of tourists. One of those tourists insisted that it couldn't be a real eagle; someone had to have climed 125 feet straight up a stainless steal pole and placed a stuffed bird there. :eyes:

Then two years ago, I saw an eagle flying over my neighborhood.

Last year, a local developer, who knew that Bald Eagles nested in an area he wanted to develop, had the nesting tree and several others in the area removed just before nesting season officially started, despite the fact (or maybe because) the eagles had been seen getting the nest ready for another brooding season... :grr:

Eagles are really magnificent and they are starting to make a come back.
