Strategery question regarding football
Do you ever just let the other team score to save clock?

Say you're down by just one or two points and the othe team is driving and is already in FG range. Say your defense sucks, but your offense is awesome. At that point, the clock is not exactly your best friend. Why not surrender the seven points and give your offense the ball with some time? Is it that insane? I never played ball beyond highschool and every time I've asked this question of a college or pro footballer, the answer is always, "absolutely not." But I know Holmgren tried it in a Superbowl not too many years ago. Sure, it blew up in his face, but still... I find it an intriguing strategy.

1. Holmgren's Seahawks were playing the Packers in Lambeau
neither defense had been able to stop the other team. It was like a college game. After two hurry up drives the game ended in a tie. The Seahawks won the toss, and the quarterback, who was one of the captains, announced to the crowd "we want the ball and we're gonna score." Three plays later he threw to somebody who caught the ball and pranced into the end zone. Unfortunately for him, that person happened to be a Packer's cornerback.

The moral of the story is, you cannot count on an unstoppable offense, and always, always give your opponent a chance to make a mistake.
