50 Cent Movie Pulled After Pa. Shooting
Nov 10 9:18 PM US/Eastern
HOMESTEAD, Pa.
----------------------------
The new 50 Cent movie "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" has been pulled from a theater where a man was fatally shot even though officials said Thursday they do not know whether the film was a factor in the slaying.

Loews Corp. decided to stop showing the rapper's bullet-ridden bio while the investigation is going on, said John McCauley, the company's vice president of marketing.

"We're unclear whether there is a direct connection," McCauley said.

Shelton Flowers, 30, had just watched the rapper's movie Wednesday when he got into a confrontation with three men in the bathroom. A fight ensued and spilled out into the concessions area, where Flowers was shot, police said.

2. I have to ask...what jackass brings a gun to a movie?
of course I know the answer...the kind of moron who is looking for a fight...

My sympathies go to Mr. Flowers family.

There are some gun fetishists who think they have to take a gun everywhere
They're the same imbeciles who will say that the REAL problem was that everybody in the movie wasn't packing heat...

8. The area where this happened is a shopping and apartment complex
that was built over what was the original Homestead Steel Works, where the famous Homestead Strike took place, the mill had died out a while ago and after the land had been cleaned up, the developers put shopping, housing and theaters there. Luckily they saved the pump house and there is a plaque there to signify the importance of the surrounding area...

It has become an immensely popular place to visit. I am sure that due to this incident the police protection will be stepped up because the developers will not want to have any more violent incidents.

18. new here and hi
this type of thing is too common. the easy avalibility of guns plus the erosion of ethical standards = real trouble. If we got rid of all the guns that would be a start.

21. and lookee at this tigereye....
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05315/604749.stm

They are going to step up security which will be interesting. So now the gun crowd may prompt this theater to start putting everyone through a metal detector...which as you can see from the article isn't something that people will like.

Granted I hope it is a one time occurrence but it remains to be seen. This is the second incident for this theater....there was that big problem last year with all those kids...

19. actually there are a lot more people that need medication or therapy
for the severe anger issues they have or the paranoia they suffer from that makes them think they must carry a gun everywhere.

I come from a family of gun/rifle owners and they don't take them everywhere they go...but then again they aren't itching for a fight.

and I would hate to see someone else killed because adults have guns and no self-control.

although i suppose you could make the argument that many violent films in theory, could produce more actual violence IRL.

First, we get the gay cowboys eating pudding movie.
And now, this.

If Dave Chappelle impregnates Oprah this week, I am going to stop reading Newsweek and just start watching Comedy Central.

11. Censorship(possible movie spoilers, just a warning)
I saw the movie last night and was disapointed. It really was lamer than I thought it would be and very over-rated. The movie was rushed and the characters never got a chance to develop and you can tell they were copying the Godfather in parts of the film. It was so funny to watch the guy from Predator and National Security pretend he's a black Marlon Brando. That was hillarious. And the part where the bad guy says: "he's nothing to me any more" was pulled straight out of Godfather part 2.

I'm sorry, but I'm still laughing too hard just thinking about it. You may like it, it's worth the 8 dollars or whatever you pay.

24. DU Anti-gunners the guys in this case doing the shooting
were in all probability not CCW holders here in PA nor in the crowd you guys are talking about who want to take their guns everywhere. That crowd is mostly lily-white and NRA members.

The people involved in this shooting were probably all carrying illegally.

I don't want to sound racist, but unfortunately what happened in this theater (and I live in the area and have been to that theater several times) is a factor of the lifestyle that is seen in this movie and that is the thug gangsta lifestyle that have many young African-American men emulating this and feeling they have a need to carry guns and to uphold their manhood by pulling that gun and shooting the guy who insulted them.

During this past year the situation has been out-of-control in this area. Every week there has been one or more shootings that have cost a life or lives. There have been killings of high school students outside the school, a mid-afternoon shooting in a parking lot, an 18 year old pulled a gun and killed two friends over a video game.

And the situation is no different in many parts of this country.

I don't know the answer, but I do think that the rich white men who control the videos and the music that glamorize the lifestyle of violence bear a helluva lot of responsibility. And I think artists like 50 cent bear responsibility as well. I'm with the people in African-American communities who protested the billboards that were put up promoting this movie.

Unfortunately the news media doesn't give near the coverage to the African-American community who are fighting the culture of violence that claims so many young men with death or prison than they do to the missing white women.

So now Loew's theater will overreact and probably install metal detectors over the actions of 4 idiots and all the law-abiding citizens, including those with CCW's will suffer. And yeah, I have a CCW and have had my gun in the theater. I don't expect to have to use it, and if I had been in the theater during this incident I'd have been glued behind a column, not shooting back, but I do have the right and I do use that right to carry for my own protection.

Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 05:31 PM by Jack_DeLeon
Dont you just love how some people have a knee jerk reaction instead of trying to solve the real problem.

And for the ignorant the real problem has nothing to do with movies or with firearms. It has alot more to do with poverty, education, and the war on drugs.
