Someone stole my Debit Card number...
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 10:30 PM by YellowRubberDuckie
And the little freaks are using it to call people in New Jersey and to go out to eat at Outback for $69. Someone had to manually enter my number. :wtf: Luckily I caught it before they went nuts with it. I just had the card shut down. I'm about to go over every transaction I've ever made to see what the hell is going on.
Oh I'm pissed. :grr:

2. That sucks, dude.
 Ugh. We had someone lift our CC# a couple years ago... they bought like $300 worth of pizza, over three nights. :wtf:

4. Did they have it delivered? That would be some gross stupidity,
if the pizza places kept records.

5. No idea.
The CC company actually rather nicely took care of it, took the charges off, and issued us new cards. Whatever might have been done legally, they did it...

6. oh no
That happened to my wife's amex card a couple of years ago and it was a living nightmare. They also got her debit card but the bank was much better at taking care of it.

I think I'm going to have a pretty easy time of it, luckily.

7. This happened to me earlier this year
It was scary when it happened, and they took forever to remove all the fraudulent charges on my card, but it was all straightened up eventually. I'm sorry.

8. This happened to me twice--two different accounts
It sucks but both banks were good about it. Amazon.com actually alerted me to the fraudulent charges.

9. I've been limiting where I use my debit card.
There is not the cream of the crop working at retail stores around here.

11. We narrowed it down to a Sonic near my work.
They had to take the card into the store to run the card, and I'm thinking that's when it happened.

12. I have a question re: debit cards
Are they the same as bank cards? What I mean is I have a card from my bank (CIBC) which is used for direct debit transactions, bank transactions etc. You have to put in a PIN if you make a purchase or use the ATM to deposit/withdraw money or pay bills. Is this the same as a debit card? Because I hardly ever have cash on me anymore. Almost every place in Canada accepts the bank card. You swipe, then put in your PIN. If there is money in the account that you choose (e.g. chequing/savings) then you're good to go.

13. Same thing.
Of course the Canadians have to think of a better name for it. Simple, concise...

14. You're lucky
I had a restaurant run a $17 dollar bill as $1700, and it took me two weeks to get my money back, and the bank did shit. They even yanked money out of my savings acocunt to pay for the bill. When I asked that a $1000 limit be put on debit card purchases, they told me that wasn't possible and that anything under $3500 was free game.

If a fraudulent charge was put through, I was entitled to challenge it, but they were under no obligation to take care of it in under two business weeks. Not only that, I had to submit my challenge in writing, and if the company that I challenged didn't admit fault then I lost the money while we "worked it out". All the while the bank would "hold" the money for the both of us, earning interest.

Thank you National Institutes of Health Federal Credit Union. You've just bought back your karma. NEVER use them. EVER.

Never ever, ever ever use NIHFCU for anything more than a joke bank account you use during college. Use Chevy Chase bank instead. The $3 fee you pay every month for a low balance is more than offset by the extra ATM fees you will pay for NIH, the grief you will pay trying to reach a person during an emergency, and the amount of money you think your personal self-respect is worth, since they certainly don't respect you.

I had NIH in college, and then I worked for NIH. Guess what? They were absolutely shitty no matter where I was. Don't use them.
