Poll question: Parking Ticket Hell
So two days ago my husband decides to paint the driveway. He parks our unregistered, uninspected, no plates car in the street in front of our house until the paint dries, despite my protests that we would get ticketed. Lo and behold in the morning we find 3 tickets totaling $360. I'm so upset about it I could hardly even sleep last night.

I get one chance to write a letter pleading "not guilty" with the possibility of getting them dismissed. If I screw it up I will have to go to court to fight it.

It is interesting to note that there was no name on the ticket, only the old plate number.

So what do you think I should use as an excuse in my letter? How should I handle this? I'm eating my own guts up over it.

1. good luck.
i got a ticket once for having an unregistered car with no plates ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.

cop came by in the middle of the night and ticketed the car in the parking lot of our apt. building where we had permission to store it briefly.

i guess you're moving before the court date? otherwise i'd suggest going to court and trying to plea down to paying one of the three tickets. it stinks, but your unregistered, no plates, car was in the street.

2. I don't think you stand a chance at all with fighting it.
They found your car in the street without tags. They're not going to budge on it. I'm sorry!

3. The truth in this case is your best bet. With a simple explanation of why
the car isn't licensed as well.

Just be straight forward and emotionally prepared to pay the tickets if they deny you... but ask nicely, in a business-like manner and pray that the judge got a hummer that morning.

Seriously though, keep the letter very simple and kind, without begging. Explain it would be a hardship though in a simple sentence. Definitely say you won't do it again, and that would appreciate their consideration this one time only.

This is just business, and it's just money, you have to frame it like that to handle and present it properly. (I know it's a lot of money, but you have to de-sentimentalize it to frame it best)

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
