Good Monday Morning, Everyone!
:donut:
And so another work week begins. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

I had a dream last night that I won the $350 million dollar Powerball lottery! Oh, how I wish it wasn't simply a dream! I can't imagine that much money though. I know I'd have to give at LEAST a million of it to Skinner as a donation to DU!

You should have been out running round the neighbourhood a couple of times by now. :P

All's jolly here - the usual slacking at work, just finished listening to some Shostakovich and jumped to Charpentier (quite a juxtaposition to say the least).

21. To my knowledge I don't have any recordings of him singing.
It is possible that I do, as I rarely pay attention to specific singers, being more concerned about the actual music and thus the composer - but he seems to be buried in 19th century Italian stuff (which I tend to avoid like the plague).

23. Given that my musical horizons start over 1000 years ago
and extend right to the present day (Naji Hakim and Arvo Paert make me weak at the knees - and James Macmillan rocks) - there's not actually much broadening to be done.

Opera is fine as opera - indeed I love it - but sticking it onto C.D. (except Wagner who is in a class of his own), or even worse taking a single aria out of place ( :puke: ) robs it of its dramatic purpose.

46. Good morning, TJ!
I am having a truly remarkable morning so far. So good that it is a little eerie. Everyone was cheery and waving as I rode to work and the traffic seemed to part at intersections to let me through without having to wait. I'll enjoy this while it lasts, and as I'm at work now, I'm not sure how this phenomenon will sustain itself.

Missed you the last three days or so. :pals: I enjoyed listening to the Poulenc. I've sung his Gloria and his Christmas motets (?) and really like the sense of space and almost visual brilliance of his chords. So from the very opening it was unmistakably Poulenc. And you were right, the ending is very unexpectedly strange.

I've listened only to a sampling of the Rossini so far. It is a strange setting with the harmonium and the almost comical (to me) walking bass at the beginning. I think it would enjoy wider performance if it were set more conventionally, but I'm going to spend some more time with it to take it for what it is.

How was your weekend?

57. The Rossini is barking mad.
The openning especially as that's the Kyrie eleison.

Poulenc was an interesting fellow - another couple of wonderful pieces by him are "Litanies de la vierge noire" (sp???) and his organ concerto.

Glad you like them anyway.

The traffic sounds shockingly/scarily good - I definitely hope that it continues for a good long time.
