6. Thank the umps

I was all ready to support the sox before this series but have lost my excitement because of the shitty calls in their favor. I'm happy for their fans but I just wish there wasn't any second guessing on how they got there.

Have fun and enjoy.

13. Give it up
Blaming the umpires is like saying "It's God's will." Bad calls are part of baseball, they go both ways, and professionals don't blame a loss on them.

I was pulling for the Angels, but I still give the Sox their due. They were clearly the better ball club.

32. I have nothing to GIVE UP...
Edited on Mon Oct-17-05 10:59 AM by nini
my point is...calls like that ruin the game for me. Yep, the Angels should have won anyway if they were the superior team. But, crap like that ruins the game to a point and puts enough doubt on stuff that it cause the competition aspect of the game to suffer greatly.

I'm a purist when it comes to sports. My team can go down in flames as long as the game is called fairly within human abilities. For example when the 1st base ump blew the call when the Angel's pitcher did not tag the runner since he did not have the ball in his hand. THAT call did need to be reversed because it was wrong - I have no problem with that. Just as I don't want my teams losing on bad calls - I don't want them winning on them either.

YOU would think with my use of the evilgrin icon you would have realized my comments did have some sarcasm in them.

Since you don't know me.. don't ever pull that 'God's will' shit on me. You are practically accusing me of being a fundie which is a major insult to me.

16. There's no second guessing.
The Sox had superior pitching, which led to the Angels posting the lowest BA in ALCS history for a series more than three games long. The umps had jack to do with it.

33. The umps probably didn't have anything to do with the FINAL results
but they screwed up. Hence my use of the evilgrin icon.

You guys really take this a bit too seriously. I do believe I wished the fans well and I am happy for them to have their team in the finals after all these years. I just think it would have been nicer for the Sox to have arrived there WITHOUT the controversy of earlier games.

I am NOT a fan that hates others teams because they're not mine. But, I am a fan that expects the overpaid ego maniacal umps to make decent calls and if they're wrong admit it - that's all and not really too much to ask for.

35. Quite sweet, thanks!
I think you can read where she says she wishes the fans well. That wasn't the post of someone vengeful or angry about the outcome.

The evilgrin icon, and wishing their fans well... it is a bit of an OVERREACH to say that it is a case of sour grapes.

We were going to pull for the winner of the ALCS no matter which team... but the hell with it. Bring on the basketball season.

I sure love this place at times, lol.

Again, re-read my post.. Jesus Christ.. I would think the use of the evilgrin icon would give some of my intent away.

When you're rereading the post.. please pay special attention to my comments and good wishes for the Sox fans. If that is sour grapes then excuse the fuck out of me. :eyes:

I mean, it's not 1919 anymore. $5,000 under the pillow just won't cut it anymore!

36. The problem with the cubs is that their fans are too loyal.
no, seriously, why should the evil Tribune Co. spend the money for a good team if the place sells out everytime, regardless? If cubs fans would boycott just one season, or even a few games, things would change on the north side.

But hey, what does one little sox fan know anyway?

His career with the Sox is likely over.

Now I get to have five seconds of hell from a family member(she's a Sox fan, I'm a Cubbie). But it's obvious who I'm rooting for. If it were ever the Cubs it would be the same way with her.
