There was a riot and a shooting at my son's HS football game tonight.
Helix HS, La Mesa CA (San Diego), played rival Mt. Miguel HS at the Helix field tonight. During the game a fight broke out and a riot ensued. My son was at the game and ran home during the melee. The riot moved outside the stadium and some asshole pulled out a gun shooting two people, killing one of them. My whole neighborhood was cordoned off for a couple of hours afterward.
WTF is wrong with people. It HS football dammit!

I cant find a link yet.

Helix High School alumni include SF 49er QB Alex Smith, USC RB Reggie Bush, Former NFL QB and MVP Brian Sipe, and Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton.

1. DAMN
I am sorry to hear this. We were at our nephew's HS football game, and could not imagine what you went through.

Hope he is safe, and you are too.

3. Its also gang-related.
Gangbangers from both schools are always fighting each other. Tonight they took it to a higher level.
My son is fine but shaken up a bit.

LA MESA – One person was shot to death and two were wounded Friday night at an apartment complex on Normal Avenue, police said.

<snip>

The shooting occurred a few blocks from Helix High School, where a brawl broke out near the end of a football game between Helix and Mount Miguel High.

Players and coaches fought on the field, and the game, with Helix leading 30-6, was called with about two minutes remaining.

Fighting continued in a parking lot, but the shooting was unrelated to the brawl, White said.

8. Aren't;t the players and the coach suppose to set an example..
I can see a few players getting all caught up in the heat of the battle, but the coaches?

It just shows us that for the veneer of civilization we are projecting both here and abroad is as thin as a coat of paint...

15. My son tells me that the shooting was related.
The word is that members of both sides ended up down the street where they finished things off.
At least thats what my freshman son and his friend are telling me.
All this is 3 blocks from my house.

There have been problems in North Texas the last couple weeks, too. One kid got beat to death, and another kid got shot.

11. who won?
it's all about winning, you know.

what could be more Murkan?

Ironically, there was more legitimately at stake in that football game than there is for our troops in Iraq, who have zero stake in the outcome, and 2000 of them have died.

12. There were always multiple sheriff deputies
At all of our high school football games, basketball games of both genders, and volleyball games. I didn't live in a high crime area. I did live in an area where people took high school athletics seriously though. Every once in a while, there would be a fight. One lead to the resignation of a school board member who was the main instigater in a fight during a basketball game and ended with him handcuffed.

14. So much anger...
This was in Suburban Seattle the other day:

http://www.komotv.com/stories/39716.htm

I know people have been saying this for thousands of years, but teenagers are a tremendous force in a weak bottle.

Of course there are good ones, but the bad ones know there's no real discipline or consequence. And the way we idolise "thug life" in the MSM, the negative energy is admired and imitated.
