If I made a bumper sticker re: gas shortage/prices and NASCAR,
would people beat me up because the sticker would say to stop NASCAR because of the shortages and prices?

After all, we indirectly pay for all of those corporate logos that get painted onto those cars that drive 250MPH in circles for 4 hours...

1. So I'm not the only one ?
Isn't driving fast in circles for extended periods of time an indication of brain damage?

7. No more so..
.... than trying to get a pigskin ball across a goal line, or shoot a round orange ball through a hoop.

2. I wouldn't mind
But there are a lot of people who like watching cars driving around.

3. If you put that sticker on your car.....
you could be beaten up by some going-in-circle driving lunatics.

4. It better be really clever.......
....otherwise it's not worth it. The amount of gas used in the average NASCAR race is a drop in the bucket from what I understand. I'm not a fan, just reporting what I heard.

5. Hmmm. NASCAR execs in this article don't seem un-concerned...
http://www.boston.com/sports/other_sports/autoracing/articles/2005/09/15/nascar_paying_price/

''It's affecting us and the teams like everybody else in America," said Jim Hunter, NASCAR's vice president of corporate communications. ''It's hurting us in the pocketbook. Everybody works off a budget. I've seen comments from team managers who said they're way over budget. When they were making their budgets last November for this season, who would have thought that gas would be $3 a gallon? It's pretty significant considering how much gas we use in our normal course of business."

Your sources may not be in-the-know either. Indeed, I know NASCAR fans who support *'s inactivity on 9/11 by saying Kerry did jack shit for 45 minutes.

6. There are probably.......
Edited on Sat Oct-01-05 04:09 PM by ProudToBeBlueInRhody
.....baseball fans, Lord of the Rings fans, and Tony Orlando fans who think the same thing about Bush/Kerry. I wouldn't pick on NASCAR fans per se.....although I'm sure there's a higher percentage of idiots than usual.....

I got my facts from a post here a few months back on DU. Maybe it wasn't totally founded, but it is good to know that NASCAR officials have at least thought about the issue.

How about we ban people from attending NASCAR and they only get to watch on TV? I bet that would save more gas than canceling the race itself. Also cuts down on people being killed by flying tires......

Now that I think of it.......nah, nevermind. ;)

8. It would just make Nascar fans (and they are legion)....
hate liberals all the more. It would be a net minus for us, I think.

I hate Nascar, but this seems a little petty. Sorry, no offense.

9. We live in a petty world.
And compared to their hail storm, I am but a spring drizzle.
