What do you collect?
I collect commemorative plates like this one of Nixon:

I've got a few world leader plates, a ton of US States & cities, and some Jesus plates.

What about you? What ridiculous items do you love to fill your home with?

1. I grow my own antiques...
Like for instance:

Over there is my old chair... This is my old rug...
Here's my old dog... An old lamp.

All I really collect is monkeys though. I have
all sorts of them.

But, unfortunately, as an artist I'm not "free enough" to make that kind of work, however much I admire it. But it's the kind of thing I'd buy in a heartbeat.

I guess you could say that I also collect books - although I really only buy books that I want to read (unlike people how collect a certain genre).

Anyway, I got into the habit of picking up business cards every time I visited a new store...and before I knew it, I had a collection. Of course then I started looking on eBay to find cards from stores I would never have a chance of visiting. As it stands right now, I probably have close to 3,000.

50. Too many things
Over the years, my collections have grown vast. I've had to chuck a few in order to remain sane. However, having said that, here are some of the things I do collect:

anything cat related, as long as the items are of realistic cats (I don't like primitives or cutesy stuff)

anything pegasus related (I tolerate a little more cutesy here, mainly because there isn't a whole lot pegasus related to start with!)

mugs--some related to above, but also places I've traveled to or such

keychains--this used to be a lot more tangible, but my keyring started weighing too much, so now I don't collect as many

fantasy art--Buying from conventions, usually either limited prints or artist proofs. This hobby is expensive, so it's always been limited to a few a year. Usually pegasi, winged cats, dragons or some other such art. Not into angels, though.

books--just a big library with a lot of SF and fantasy, with a good deal of mysteries and non-fiction on history

TV related stuff--with eBay around, however, I've been selling a lot of my own old stuff

fabric--someday I will make that quilt, I just know I will!

DVDs--I thought I was going to have an eclectic, small collection, but with the price of DVDs out there in some places, I'm finding more and more that I want.

I think that's all. But I might come up with a few others if I think about it! :9

Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 04:28 PM by mvd
I just bought a tall, dressed in brown Santa with "Noel" on it and a hugging Santa at Marshall's over the weekend.

These are SOME fall CDs I want to buy:

Sheryl Crow - Wildflower
Emma Roberts - Unfabulous and More (still deciding, but the more I listen, the closer it sounds to pop/rock I like)
Liz Phair - Somebody's Miracle
Brie Larson - Finally Out Of PE
The Like - Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?
Fefe Dobson - Sunday Love
Laura Veirs - Year of Meteors
David Gray - Life In Slow Motion
Nada Surf - The Weight Is a Gift

possibly Fiona Apple, Kate Bush

I decided that I'll buy some of the new Gretchen Wilson songs on iTunes. It's just too pandering this time.

Edited on Mon Sep-26-05 09:34 PM by mvd
Megan McCauley's Baa Baa Black Sheep, which I'm waiting for to ship from amazon.com. Megan's closer to an Evanescence style than the more bubblegum Emma Roberts style, but she's still a teen. I find female, teen pop/rock enjoyable in general - but I don't find that weird since it's not all I listen to. I really think it's good stuff, and it adds to my overall listening experience. I didn't like teen dance/pop, A/C, or boy bands as much.

Collecting CDs and Christmas stuff occupies my time enough. I don't feel the need for other collections.

65. Anything to do with the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair
Might seem a strang thing to collect but my great great grandfather was a contractor working on the fair, and I was left many items having to do with it: Stock certificates, plates, cups, toys, novelties, items from the international pavilions, books, etc.

My antique book collection was also inherited, and I've added way too much to it over the years.

I'd love to live an EF Schumacher/Thoreau minimalist life, but I can't get rid of this stuff.
