Check out my new sig line....appropriate Blackadder quote.
I'm very happy with it, as it seems perfectly suited to Shrub's approach to government.

But thanks for the info.

The only one I really remember is when he was marrying the enfanta, and had to have the translator in the room while they were in bed.

ROFLMAO!!!

32. It was late 1980s if I recall. You can get 'em all on video
Probably DVD too at this point. I recommend it highly. It's hilarious, and after the first season (which is very different from the other three; it has its fans, but I wouldn't recommend it for starters) much of the comedy derives from the fact that the protagonist is constantly being menaced by the insanity and stupidity of the lunatic morons who run the world (the stark raving mad Queen Elizabeth I, the thick-as-a-whale-omelette Prince George, and the utterly bonkers General Melchett), a situation with which we are all painfully familiar.

The writing is very good, and they know just enough about the history to make it funny even if you're a pedant. I love the one about 18th century theater.

C ya,

The Plaid Adder

23. Did you realise that Dr Johnson (Blackadder 3) was played by Hagrid?
Robbie Coltrane, of "Cracker" (UK Criminologist drama) and "Hagrid" (Harry Potter) fame - one of our finest Scottish comedians and not a bad comedic actor either!

He also played the main ghost in Blackadder's Christmas Carol, which was well worth watching.

27. Waah! You people had a Blackadder thread and didn't invite me!
I ought to get to the lounge more often.

The fact that two seasons of Blackadder feature an idiot upperclass twit named George means that the Bush-hating BA fan can have hours of amusement choosing which one best fits the times. The one in the initial post is a beaut, although I am also partial to, "George, who's using the family brain cell at the moment?"

I found another good sig quote in an episode of Jeeves & Wooster:

"A man can either be a successful dictator, or design ladies' underwear. One or the other; not both."

--Bertie Wooster, "A Plan For Gussie"

"I care not a jot that you are the son of a certified sausage-sucking loon! It minds not me that you dress like a mad parrot and that you talk like a plate of beans negotiating their way out of a cow's digestive system. It is no skin off my rosy nose that there are bits of lemon peel floating down the Thames that would make better regents than you!"

--Sir Talbot Buxomly to Prince George, "Dish and Dishonesty"

"Mr. Baldrick may look like a chimpanzee who's been put in a suit and strategically shaved, but he is a brilliant politician. The number of votes I cast simply reflects the strength of my support for his policies."

Another great George moment from the courtmartial episode:

"Everything goes over your head, doesn't it, George? You should go to Jamaica and become a limbo dancer."

George: "I'm thick. I'm as thick as the big print version of the Complete Works of Charles Dickens."

Blackadder: "You ride a horse rather less well than another horse would. Your brain would make a grain of sand look large and ungainly and the part of you that can't be mentioned, I am reliably informed by women around the Court, wouldn't be worth mentioning even if it could be"
