DVD rental at a McDonald's?

Now I've seen everything...

I was at the laundromat and, being hot and sleep deprived, decided to walk across the parking lot to the McDonald's for a Diet Coke. I haven't been to this McDonald's in some time (1-2 years), so I was shocked when the first thing I saw upon entering was a huge DVD rental machine. It had fairly new rleases in it; $1 per night.

Am I way behind the times, because I was a little dumbfounded.

1. That machine is ill-designed...
They got the red right, but the outer case needs to be mustard yellow and not beige like your typical computer...

I'll stick to netflix and not step in that smelly, artery-clogging joint.

2. I saw dvd auto-rental stores all over paris
it was weird...a storefront with a screen on it, and slots for credit/debit cards and cash/coins. I saw people using them all the time.

3. I heard a radio ad somewhere about these machines
It is apparently some sort of franchise arrangement. Somebody can buy or rent these machines and make money off them. So it may not have anything to do with McDonald's at all; it is just probably a prime location with a lot of traffic.

4. A friend of mine rents movies there, copies the DVD and brings it back
Not very honest, but it does make for cheap DVD's.
