So how the hell are you, anyway?
I was dragging badly for a bunch of weeks this summer. The loss of Andy on top of a lot of other things just took the wind out of my sails.

Feeling better now. Felling, as a matter of fact, of two minds. Mind one clings to optimism and the idea that worms turn and pendulums swing. Mind two says fuck that, whatever, win lose or draw, I'm in this thing, and if it is the long defeat, so be it.

How are you doing?

And ready to kick some conservative ass, while I'm at it.

4. It's been a long summer already, WillPitt...
I tend to be an optimistic person but I must admit, it has been a challenge of late. If we were on a level playing field, and I felt that the truth would actually be exposed on this bunch, i could feel much better. However, I agree, we are in this thing, win, lose, or draw, or the "long defeat" so we should fight it to the end. And there will be an end. It will not last forever. Just as summer does not last forever..

Then some of the things that have been going down here, plus I read about 12 fucking papers worth of shitty news a day. It can get old. Trying to write my book, a screenplay and some essays. Getting ready to run for State Senate too. Lots of stuff going on all at once, but it's all slow going. I've been in a foul ass kicking mood since last November too.

You know, I still have that interview I did with you two years ago on tape, one of these days I'll make some copies or switch it to mp3 and get you a copy.

7. Hanging in there, Mr. Pitt
Been enjoying a little semi-downtime the past few weeks. I feel like an edurance runner of sorts....I thought the nightmare would be over in 2002, then 2004...now I'm looking at 2006. But I'm prepared to keep pushing for justice as long as it takes or until I'm dead...whichever comes first. I ain't going anywhere and I sure as hell am not going to change my mind about these criminals.

We are living in turbulant times, but we do have each other here at DU. And you are a beacon of truth and information to many, my husband included.

I don't know if you have a belief system that can be your anchor or not. I hope you do, because it can help. Mystics I know are saying we are in for a lot of changes, and it is important to keep up spiritual practices, not only for ourselves, but for all sentient beings.

May you be well.

Take a look at attitudes and you lose hope. If we all banded together instead of attacking one another we could get things done. I am afraid that our party is falling apart. I would be more hopeful if I didn't witness so much animosity. I have never seen anything like this type of behavior in my entire life.

13. Hanging in.
Watching the AFL-CIO debacle with horror and sadness, but feeling good because I'm back in the hospital tax exemption fight. We are seeing some progress--Minnesota has set up some major agreements between the hospitals and the state AG about collection policies and treatment for uninsured people. Similar agreements are working in other states.

There is a lot shaking here in Illinois that I can't write about openly, but the winds of change are blowing. We look to have a ruling on the appeal of one of the tax exemption cases any time now. Legal eagles have told me the case we wrote looks mighty strong and the private money in the legal academic circles is we are gonna carry it all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court...

One of my fellow Board members appeared by invitation in front of the House Ways and Means Committee a couple of months ago on this same subject of hospital exemptions from taxation and what do we get in return--do we GET charity care in return? He was well treated.

It's happening. Not as fast as we want, but it is happening.

Good to see you on, Will!

Physical problems with diabetes and my neck have made it hard for me to feel well enough to do much. I've decided to back off politics for awhile for my own sanity and health, but I'll be back to contribute what I can when I can.

It has occurred to me that I'm no good to anyone if I'm bitchy, sad, riding the glucose roller coaster or in too much pain.

Even though I didn't know him as well as others did, Andy's death affected me. I can barely type his name without feeling the tears well up. First of all, Andy was a wonderful person who cared about everyone. I get choked up every time I think about him crying, worrying about my surgery. Geez, he was the one who was so very sick, yet he was concerned about me. Secondly, I came face-to-face with pure evil when I realized what those assholes did to Andy. This game is for keeps, folks. These people aren't playing around. I don't know why I didn't "get that" before, but I didn't, not on a visceral level. The people we're dealing with--the worst ones--are truly evil. They aren't about to give up power readily and they will easily and readily resort to violence.

I was shocked by this. I shouldn't have been, but I was. Some part of me keeps hoping that we can work it out without violence, but I don't see how that is going to happen. It saddens me, makes me fear for humanity, makes me fear humanity. I'm not entirely certain Homo sapiens deserves to survive if we treat each other thusly.

For now, I'm out of the fray. I think even Andy would agree that my health is too fragile to risk just now. That's why I hope those of you who are able will fight even harder. Some of us need the rest, but we love and encourage those of you who can fight on.

58. just make sure you take good care of yourself
that's whats important for you right now. You can always get back into the battle when you're ready to do so.

Yeah, I agree this game is for keeps. I was never a really naive person. I was raised on an Indian reservation and have seen how tough things can be. But these last 4 years have opened my eyes like never before. I think the true tragedy of 9-11 was to reveal just how ugly the underbelly of this country is. I wish I could just be the same old oblivious person of about 7 or 8 years ago. The exploitation of 9-11, the War in Iraq, the racism, misogyny, xenophobia, it all has really hurt me to see. The worst of the worst are flat out evil, you have that right. No choice but to fight that.

But, yeah, hope things work out for you, just take care, rest and work on yourself. The rest of us have your back in the meantime. :)

16. I'm not doing so well...
A lot of big things are about to gang up on me at once again: the kids go back to their Dad's house in a couple days; the apartment company's going to inspect our apartment tomorrow; our lease is up in September and I think we will be moving to somewhere cheaper; I desperately need to find a Good Job before my student loans start coming due; and I'm scared out of my gourd that I won't be able to handle it.

Also, I think things are going to get much worse, politically, before they get better. Maybe it's just my naturally pessimistic temperament?

28. It is All Starting to Clear Up
I feel more optimistic than I have for a long time, and I think reading all the highly-intelligent posts on DU is what did it: people researching, making arguments, distinguishing between things (Democrats, as opposed to DLC, etc.), making censored news available--I get the idea more and more that we as a Party are getting on track again, after a long, dark night for our country and the world, and that we will be the ones to end it. I think DU is a microcosm of the Democratic Party as a whole, and the more we can reason with each other--agree where we can, and fight to change things where we can't--the more our Party and our country will, likewise, return. After this long nightmare of corporate control, still here, we can actually start the work of solving things ignored all these years.

As for personal losses, this is part of life and the world, and you may never completely get over it. My Mom died 8 years ago, and I still miss her. I feel her presence, and hope she waits for me, and the rest of the family still living; this world is not the only place. There is sadness that can't be gotten rid of because it was real, but this is the course of life for all. We are all alike together, suffering it.

Politically, I think things are clearing up, and the sun is coming up again. Republicans, as they always do, overplayed their hand and tried to grab, steal, and own everything at once, and oppress us all at once. Now we can be shown to be the real center of society again, and them the fascist fringe. Now we will fight. It won't be fun, but it will be good.

31. Disassociation.
As if the reality of a barbaric, criminal, destructive, murderous and treasonous leadership isn't tough to take,...good progressive folks are being regularly attacked and tossed away on a board that is supposed to embrace such people. Progressive people being thrown out the door in reaction to RW assaults? Insane.

I've had to remove myself,...and sit in wonder at such phenomena. I sit, wondering what is necessary to unite all good people against those who exploit humanity. What is necessary to drive us towards a more productive path for human interests, together? I wonder.

I also wonder at our resistence to viciously spearing those who are damaging everything we believe in. Politics aside, the basis of this nation and every progress towards advancing human potential is under attack. This assault is not merely political,...it's much, much more than that game.

Yeah. So, I am in "observer" mode,...

34. Of many minds. That is my condition of late. Getting short tempered too
often with dolts and idiots. But I am older and time is looking shorter for that reason.

Part of me is planning for our peaceful retirement. Part of me is expecting the Brown Shirts to come for us or start an actual civil war as the drip drip turns into a flood of leaks about the junta's malovence. Part of me is ready to march at the head of a column. Us older types are expendable. Gotta keep you youngsters ;) safe to rebuild the nation. Part of me is about ready to throw in the towel and become a hermit.

But I think of the kids, the young people who have gone from being children to being friends and I stay in the fight. They deserve a country at least as good as the one I had. For them, I stay in the fight to restore America.

But, Will, I get so tired some weeks/months. Without this place and the people here, well some of them, I might just go mad.

To those who help me, many thanks. I try to send thanks to the many strangers who are friends through what they share here. To maintain a perspective of appreciation seems to bring strength and perspective. We have each other and our own selves. It is what is best about America. It will see us through.

When things look really black, I recall that this nation was forged by a relatively small part of the population. The founders faced off against the greatest military power of the time, and they won. Freedom and free will shall win again.

the death of my husband. Everything else piled on it hasn't helped. Somehow I keep hoping for a beacon of light that shows things are going to change for the better. I just haven't seen it yet. It seems everytime something happens that looks promising, that looks like a smoking gun to bring the criminals running our nation to justice, that could get our nation back on track, it just fades into the mist.

I guess I'm feeling pretty hopeless right now.

Watching the continued travesty of what passes for the United States is breaking my heart. I am trying to live with integrity because I feel when the dust settles we will all be accountable for our actions on all levels--spiritual, interpersonal, nationally & globally.
It is a time of sadness for me because my daughter had a miscarriage & we were so happy before it happened.
My dreams have all been disturbing. For a solid week now, every morning I wake from another bad one.
But, other than that, I'm fine. Thanks for asking.

63. I'm fine. I'm fine and then I'm fine again. My mantra these days.
Life isn't what I thought it would be and it isn't what I feared.
I'm half the time shrieking in my head through nightmares and daylight realities and the other trying to gracefully accept the torment and chaos and plug along. At the same time I laugh more now and enjoy the small moments that I would have ignored ten years ago.

I'm sorry for Andy. I know that you're grieving. I wish there was something I could say. There isn't. We have to move along when someone dies but not forget. Think about what he would want.

68. Hello William and My DU Friends
It's been a long while since I last posted but since you asked how the hell are ya...I will let you know. But first I am truly sorry about Andy, he was quite a DUer and activist, he is surely missed in the fight to get our country back in the hands of the people.

I admire you William for your determination and stamina to fight the battles that you have in the past, ready for the present and aiming for the future with optimism with a back up attitude, win, lose or draw you're in it for the long haul...even with defeat... so be it.
There's no stopping you, and many of our friends on this thread are like you. I may not be posting here like I use to doesn't mean I have not forgotten our fight...never will forget and my warm affections for my friends here too.

The selection of 2000 and what we have endured since has brought us all closer together, we may not always be in touch but we're bound together in heart for wanting the best for our families. Each of us come here to support and provide information that will benefit all.
There's a bond here, with the very Best Liberal Hearts and I'm happy to know you, Kentuck, Proud Patriot, and ZombyWoof...and the rest on this thread.

I have been busy, I home schooled my son the past two years and now he's a full time college student. My house is still with hurricane damage, but slowly but surely progress is being made.
My health has improved, I lost weight and have braces on my bottom teeth, which probably was a great aide to that success.
The other day I was in a store and I noticed a lady purchasing a red hat and I said to her, "I like your red hat." And she said, "Do you belong to the red hat club?"all in the same breath, "oh no you're too young to be in our club"...well what a smile I had, braces and all...it made my day, at 51. :-)

Say hello to your Mom William, hope she's enjoying the jokes I'm sending her and of late she overlooked the worse lawyer jokes. Also I hope she sends you the funniest ones, laughter is the best medicine and we need to do it often and show our appreciation for one another. :loveya:

Frantically going through all the steps you need to take in their proper order to get the plane down safely, feeling none too sure that any of this will actually work, but like a solid professional doing it all anyway. It might work, and if not, you've gone down in flames with honor.

83. you're likely right about this:
"If any forum on this board needs a stronger sense of fellowship, it is GD" in that the seeming, at least to me, insatiable urge to 'one up' or debunk their 'fellow' posters is what trends toward debasing, or discounting, that "sense of mission & fellowship" thing you have referred to imo...i always have to add "imo" but it is clear @ times = i may not even be entitled to it from time to time; end'o my preaching ~

whoopsy, i'm not 'a mod' so i have no reason to post here never mind ala, roseanne rosanna-danna

76. In some ways I'm great.
I'm fairly even keeled, and it takes a lot to make me stray from that. In general it's a good thing, because I handle adversity well.

It can be bad though, because I settle for things I shouldn't. I need to make some changes in my life and I'm lacking the motivation to do them.

got my "support groups" workin for me- DU, Bartcop, Morning Sedition, Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, c-span and some local groups...

This week-end I heard on more than one occasion "Man, Canada's looking better all the time... " to which I found myself replying- "No, stay and fight! These fucks are in a lot of trouble and we need everyone here to help!"

I was stunned by those words myself... so I guess I'm doing better than I thought!

94. coming out of the depression hurled at me on Nov 2.
We had buried my mother on Monday, Oct 31. She raised me to be a good Democrat; one of my earliest memories is of her ranting at the TV about the Army/McCarthy hearings (I was all of 6, and she explained it to me just like I was old enought to vote and udnerstand it. So I did understand it) She would have despised this election, and every thing ** has done.

I felt like I lost my mother and my country all at the same time.

No president or political entity ever made me mad enough to donate money
No president or political entity ever made me mad enough to walk streets in the heat to knock on doors to help get out the vote.
I have never been outraged enough before to put bumper stickers on my car.

I have never wept over an election before.

I came into DU too late to really know Andy. I wish I had known him.

But now I have a job that won't be outsourced, my husband has a job he loves, our daughter is terrific and my four cats think I am wonderful except when I have to give one of them medicine.

I have a wonderful circle of fellow Yellowdogsintexas that I can rant with, plus the great people on DU.

Now, I know what Morning Sedition and Randi references mean.

Life is improving.

It is time to get energized again. I wish I had the physical energy I had back in my Nixonhating years! But I will keep on keeping on as much as I can.

Good to see you back, I always enjoy reading your posts, WillPitt
