Pics of me with Dream Theater
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 06:14 PM by noahmijo
I have been a fan of DT since 89' Not just a fan but to tell you the truth they've always been #1 to me since day one. Not only am I the type that listens to them religiously but each one of their members I consider a personal teacher when it comes to the respective instruments they play ( I am primarily a guitar player but I also study keyboard, bass, and drums)

It was with great honor that I say they were all stand up guys and behaved exactly the way I thought they would from John Myung being his mystical self (although he spoke he actually spoke!!) to Mike Portnoy's crazy metal faces and giggles when we talked Yankees and The Sopranos. Jordan Rudess was really cool who spent some time talking with my gf about piano techniques and songs ect, he was wearing a really old Pink Floyd shirt which I had never seen before....John Petrucci just a model of a gentleman very gracious had this very "I'm a just a human being not a God feel free to ask me whatever"

I bearhugged both Petrucci and Portnoy I couldn't resist but they were cool about it they laughed :)

The only kind of crappy thing as DT fans will notice is that James Labrie is not present in the photos because he took off early. From what I could gather he looked kind of ill during the group photo shoot so maybe he just had a little agita so unfortunately I didn't get to have a shot with him but oh well next time!

Cheer guys for easily one of the most awesome nights of my life and a defining moment of inspiration.

2. *is envious*
I've seen Dream Theater live four times now (most recent was last Sunday with Megadeth). I've never meet the band before.

3. This was the Gigantour tour
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 06:23 PM by noahmijo
Dave Mustaine actually stuck his head out from backstage while we were waiting for Dream Theater. The five of us sitting there yelled "Dave!" and he just scampered away like a scared rabbit.

Well I figured my suspicions confirmed he's a prick. I dig Megadeth's music, Marty Friedman one of my favorite players but sorry Dave is a prick and I always thought he was but that moment confirmed it.

5. Awesome.
Gigantour was a great show, personally, I think Symphony X stole the show. They should've been on the main stage instead of Fear Factory.

10. NO SHIT THANK YOU

Symphony X is to me probably #2 or #3 fav for me and they only got the small stage over here and completely ripped. I got a few goodies from them as well although we were around tight security so we couldn't whip the camera out but I got to shake hands with Micheal Lepond, Russell Allen (who during "Wicked" pointed out at my girlfriend and sang during the lines "from the black and twisted shadows rose beauty alluring to the eye oh her devilish grin, her moonlit skin and long dark hair flowing around her thighs")

and of course MICHEAL ROMEO! Poor Micheal looked like he just came out of a swimming pool he was so wet with sweat when the set was done he sort of skirted after signing a bunch of autographs and stuff.

Russell Allen was the one I got to spend the most time with, he was a stand up guy I wish I coulda had a pic with him :( oh well hopefully someday in the future...

Oh yea I caught one his picks that he threw into the crowd :)

I got their signatures on a plain sheet of paper which I framed with the pick and some Symphony X photos but yea I told Micheal Lepond that I wish they were onstage instead of Fear Factor and he sort of nodded like "yea no kidding"

24. It's too bad Symphony X didnt get to play The Odyssey
I saw them live in '03 and they played all 24 minutes of The Odyssey as their closer. It was quite awesome.

6. No being that it was a show geared towards metalheads
If I remember correctly their set list was

"As I Am"
"Dying Soul"
"Under A Glass Moon" (It was so awesome for them to play this oldie but goodie)
"Panic Attack"
"Never Enough"
"Fatal Tragedy"
"Home"
"War Inside My Head"
"Metropolis Pt 1"

Encore

"Pull Me Under"

So fairly short especially for them but then again this was more Megadeth's show with DT as the guests.

8. At the show I went to...
They played "The Glass Prison" instead of "As I Am".

9. Wow that was short.
Poor Dave. I hear he is a fundie. He won't tour with certain bands because of it. I'm surprised Dream Theater is with him. I love Megadeth and I hope is not as bad as it seems.

12. I dunno if he turned fundie in fact last I heard he hates Bush
but then again he said negative things about Micheal Moore (not hateful it was just along the lines of "he should shut up he's just an entertainer ect)

Thing is though I don't care liberal or conservative you could be the most liberal artist in the world but the moment you neglect your fans you're an asshole case closed.

21. Dave has never been very appreciative of his fans
in person. Hell, Metallica kicked him out for a good reason, he was selfish bastard just trying to drink and party all night long.

14. Here's a link to their band site
If you like Progressive Rock/Metal or bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Metallica or just musicians who can dazzle with technical ability you owe it to yourself to check em out.

A good starter album is "Scenes From A Memory" Some people may disagree on this being that it's their first concept album much like "The Wall" but it shows DT's wide range of going from heavy to beautiful in their songs and how throughout the album you forget you're listening to the same 5 guys.

15. Thanks! But who did Life in A Northern Town?
It's buigging the shit out of me trying to think of the name.

Seems that the band had "dream" in the name.

20. You know I was going to comment on that...
Dream Theater plays LOTS of covers I can't even keep up with them.

They also have a tendency to play covers ranging from Elton John Classics to old school Metallica to some obscure band's songs that no one's ever heard of.

I thought you were referring to one of those moments but I guess it's another band you were thinking of...oh well! :)

11. Platinum Tickets here was my trick
Edited on Sun Jul-31-05 06:40 PM by noahmijo
Well I went for broke and bought Platinum tickets and see the thing is I live in Tucson in which hardly anyone knows who DT is but EVERYONE knows who Megadeth is.

The concert was way out in the middle of nowhere (Native American casino to be exact) and being that the attention was all going to Megadeth and most people bought the platinum tickets for Megadeth me, my girl, and three other dudes were the only ones who were Platinum ticket holders for DT

Because of such a low turn out the people running the event let us do pretty much whatever we wanted they normally don't let people take personal photos or have them get more than one thing signed by the whole band but since it was such a low turn out they figured "why the hell not" especially with all the attention Megadeth was getting they show appreciation that we were there for DT (the REAL musicians) and not Megadeth.

Sorry to sound pompous but Dave is a dick and that band went downhill after Marty left em.

This was the one time I can think of where it paid to not be living in a real city like NYC or LA.

22. Oh many do..just not HERE
Tucson is a heavy metal and country town. The area it was in (and this is just fact people not a stereotype) was heavily Native American and the Native Americans out here dig heavy metal and rarely find interest in bands like Dream Theater.

See if I had tried this even in Phoenix, Arizona it wouldn't have happened there would've easily been about 15-30 people showing up as platinum ticket holders.

18. Aww thanks but I look like hell
2 hours of screaming and headbanging and running around the venue trying left me looking like crap for the photo shoot but oh well I just wanted to mark that I met my fav band of all time!

I really miss my long hair though corporate america doesn't hire long haired people though :(
