4. If Zuni asks people to stop eating waffles
then Zuni is a jerk, Zuni week or no.

You just don't step between a person and their waffles. That's not what a true friend does.

A true friend says "do you want me to get you some berries for those waffles?"

are a trend that has not yet taken root in california, sadly.

Mexican food two meals a day some days just isn't enough.

But...back to waffles...flavored syrups? Yes or no? I'm a traditionalist - pure maple.

51. I agree... either maple or jam
The flavored syrups seem to be to be trying to have it both ways, and you wind up losing the charm inherent in both maple syrup and jam.

54. The restaurant where we ate today, offered pecan butter with syrup.
The pecan butter is a nice touch.

Fresh fruit is nice, but whipped cream seems excessive.

58. Oooh, yeah
Pecan butter sounds like some good stuff.

Whipped cream is good if the fruit is a bit tart, but only a little bit... not too much, or you wind up having something more like strawberry shortcake than waffles.

I'm a waffle-batter traditionalist. The flavorings for waffles should be on top.

For example a buttermilk/blueberry pancake with butter and real maple syrup is quite sublime. Some days are waffle days, and some days are pancake days.

87. yes.....
I still feel that the primary virtue of pancakes is the fact that they're easy to make at home, which is faint praise.

Culinary ease and culinary excellence rarely go hand in hand.

By using quality ingredients, even the humble pancake can be quite excellent.

I purchased an electric griddle just to make pancakes easier, as well as frying eggs and bacon.
