1. They tell me it's to get past spam filters
I collected a ton of this stuff a few months back, but apparently Earthlink has improved their spam filters, 'cause I don't get it anymore. Now it's just the large files that turn out to be somebody offering me a chance to buy a fast-moving stock. Ummm, thanks no.

3. Yeah, that's right. It starts with a ton of gibberish and then they offer
me some kind of stock tip.

I've turned it in to Spamcop.net and Comcast.net. It's coming from out of the country -- Russia, China, Korea, etc.

Thanks a bunch.

2. Exactly right. It's about getting past spam filters.
It's a war of wits with ever-changing conditions and boundaries. The more the spam filters are improved, the stranger (and in some cases, longer) the subject lines and/or content get.

I don't worry 'bout it much anymore -- what little gets past the Earthlink filters goes to my Suspect Mail folder, and I can kill it in seconds. :)

4. Well, right now, I'm only getting about one or two a day on my
"junk mail" box.

It used to be hundreds a day. Also, pop-ups have been diminishing (except for the one or two from DU). Annoying, but acceptable.

5. Start using Firefox and those pop-ups will be a thing of the past too
It's ironic about the spam though: They put in so much jibberish to get past the spam filter that if it does get through, anyone with half a clue will know it's not worth their time to read it.
