The Day The Music Died: DUI Backstreet Boy Nick Carter sentenced to Rehab

SANTA ANA, California (AP) -- Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter was ordered into a three-month alcohol treatment program after pleading guilty to drunk driving.

Carter, 25, entered the plea Tuesday in Orange County Superior Court. The judge also ordered Carter to pay $1,200 in fines, placed him on three years' informal probation and restricted his driving privileges for 90 days, said Deputy District Attorney Tate McCallister.

Carter, who wasn't in court Tuesday, was pulled over March 5 in downtown Huntington Beach. He was charged with one count of driving under the influence and one count of driving with a blood alcohol level above 0.08, the legal limit.

The singer has said through his publicist that he was on prescription medication at the time "and was unaware of its interaction possibilities."

YOU MAY ALSO REMEMBER Lil' Nick "crying hard" during his January 2002 nightclub arrest:

Police pulled up to the club late Tuesday night after a fight reportedly broke out, and they returned around 3 a.m. to break up another scuffle. As officers were making arrests and breaking up the melée, Carter allegedly began arguing with an unidentified woman, according to the arrest report (a copy of which has been posted on The Smoking Gun).

Cops say they asked Carter to leave the club at least 10 times before giving him the parental-style "count of three" or he'd be arrested. Sure enough, police say Carter wanted it that way: He kept playing games with their heart and was promptly cuffed.

"The cops arrested him, put him in handcuffs, and then put him in the police car. Nick wasn't belligerent, but he started bawling," one eyewitness, speaking on the condition of anonymity, tells The Smoking Gun.

"He said, 'You just want to arrest a Backstreet Boy. I've never been arrested. I don't know what to do!' He was crying hard. Tears were streaming down his face. People were laughing at him. The cops were chuckling."

2. alcohol is really bad to some people
they get belligerent, morose, maudlin, and worst of all, amnesiac and do it all over again, often. Add some "prescription" pills to the mix and you've got real problems.

At least he's getting treatment; a three month program is probably a good thing before he ends up killing himself or someone else.

Ah, the terrible pressure of never having to work another day in your life and having absolutely anything you could ever want. Tsk tsk tsk.

Perhaps a cop car was the wrong mode of transporation.
