1. I don't know if anyone did officially,
And I've only looked at snippets I've seen posted here. However, I find it incredulous that they lied by omission in responding to the question concerning why no fighter jets appeared until to late.

Their lame excuse was simply saying that North America isn't well covered due to almost all of our defenses being turned outwards. Also, that F-16s didn't start escorting Payne Stewart's plane until an hour and a half after it veered off course. What they neglect to say is that F-15s were up with Stewart's plane within minutes, and that they escorted until their fuel was almost gone, then hooked up the F-16s.

After I read that, I figured that the article was another cock and bull propaganda piece meant to pacify the public. Thus, I've never given it any thought. Perhaps I should sit down and work up a de-bunking of it:shrug:

2. I guess I don't know enough about the issues to be critical of it myself
What I read seemed plausible. I was hoping someone had answered it since I can't think for myself :)

4. Here's the original link
http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/defense/1227842.html

and here's a link that disputes some of the article's points
http://www.reopen911.org/ericreubt.htm

I actually caught a lot of interesting stuff by googling
"Popular Mechanic 911." I'm sorry I always run to the DU community for information. I guess I don't always trust my own filter. I should more.

5. Maybe William Windsor can help
But a year and a half ago, William Windsor was given another chance when his father, the grandson of H.H. Windsor, who founded Popular Mechanics magazine at the turn of the 20th century, died and left Willie and his three siblings a small fortune -- close to $1.25 million each.
