What meds do you take?
Don't answer if it is too personal; I understand ;)

I have some Clonazepam on hand for when I get asthma/anxiety attacks. .5 mg is very weak... but I'm rocking 2 of the suckers right now so I'm at 1mg as we speak. Fairly relaxing since it is a benzodiapene.

Paxil for depression,Xanax for anxiety/panic attack,Dalmane to sleep,Ventolin for asthma,Trazodone as anti-depressor and sleeping aid and Advair for asthma.Plus some generic painkillers for chronic pain.I'm only 37 but my grand father who is over a 100 is in better shape than me.Pretty depressing isn't it.

10. I used to take Prozac for a couple of years
when my mother was dying of lung cancer. It helped with my depression, but just killed my sex life. I came off it without any problems, but nowadays sometimes have periods where I take Celexa.

Anti-depressants - for me - all seem to make sex less enjoyable, which in turn causes even more depression. Is this just me, or do other people experience the same thing? The problem here in the UK is that doctors are overworked and far less inclined to spend time tweaking meds until they get things just right for a patient, which I find incredibly frustrating. If anybody knows of an anti-depressant that doesn't mess about with the libido, I'd be very grateful if you'd tell me what it is!

I take Zyrtec for hay fever, which I suffer badly from, although not nearly as badly in the UK as I did back in Georgia. The season starts later here and doesn't last as long, so I'm sneezy and puffy-eyed for only a matter of weeks instead of months at a time.

12. Meds ... wow
i was on Clonazepam, Trazadone, zoloft, valium, wellbutrian and several others. I had really bad depression after the birth of my child and my inlaws didn't help. They told me that I was crazy and making it up cause I wanted attention. I went to several docs and they had me drugged up. I was so high that I was almost drooling. I finally got sick of it all and quite all them. I really do need an anti-depressant but I am afraid to be a zombie again.

I was put on Wellbutrian, zoloft and Lexapro (later on) after the birth of my daughter. Of course, everyone around me thought that I was doing it all for attention.
I haven't been on any antidepressants for a couple of years now. I hate how they make you feel "foggy". But I do know that I could probably benefit from one to this day. More than anything I hate the looks my family gives me when they find out about them.

I don't like the idea of being hooked on chemicals for life, basically. What if there's a terrorist attack/nuclear winter and I can't get it? What if there's a recall because it's really ruining my liver (or whatever)?

I wish I could find some kind of natural remedy, or be cured or something. But it's way easier to take my medicine and be on to other things.

I used to take Vioxx. Rasser frasser... I now take Aleve and Tylenol as if they were M&Ms. I honestly don't know what I'd prefer -- increased risk of heart attack, or this fucking pain.

67. I wonder about it, myself
Especially since I'm in constant pain and I have to take Lortab so regularly, not to mention a bunch of other crap.

Chronic pain is a new world to me since mine happened as the result of an accident (October, 2003). Most people I talk to who suffer chronic pain are also constantly in pain, so I'm beginning to wonder what the fucking point of all this crap is, anyway.

The ridiculous thing about Duragesic is how difficult it is as a prescription. I absolutely MUST see my pain management specialist on a monthly basis to get it now, thanks to new regulations. And there's no call in, mail in or anything like that. I have to show up for the fucking prescription, which is ALWAYS a 3-4 hour ordeal.

The only explanation I've heard is that drug abusers like to take Duragesic patches, scrape the gel off, dry it and smoke it. Sounds like pure torture to me, since I had a faulty patch once, and it overloaded me; the sensation was anything but pleasant and I thought I was going to fucking die.

Hopefully, I'll be having surgery soon (replacement discs in my neck) and this chapter can be slammed shut.

Edited on Tue Jun-14-05 11:07 AM by Blue in Portland
I don't take the Klonopin every night anymore, and I've finally cut the dosage of my BP meds, though not down to pre-* levels. I've had idiopathic restless leg syndrome since I was a kid, though. It was a godsend when I finally got prescribed something for it.

Ha, if I watched Faux News I would probably be on far more meds than I am! Or divorced; my family wouldn't be able to stand my ranting. Even my dog won't stay in the room with me when I'm watching Sunday morning TV. Good thing; she's a pit bull and I don't want to teach her to hate anyone, even repugs.

Thorazine
Reglan (yep, even more!)

Of course, I don't take all of those last ones at the same time. Depending on how badly the vertigo gets, I can switch meds. I usually start with anti-vert and see how it goes.

been on Klonopin for 13 years now ... Can't say I'm thrilled about it either but there is no way for me to come off the stuff unless I go into rehab. I wish I knew then what I know now ... :(

And I started Protonix two months ago after taking Ranitidine for several years. The Ranitidine wasn't working very well so my docotor had me switch. Have not had heatburn once since starting Protonix.

Hopefully once I get a better diagnosis about my neck problem (seriously, who do I have to blow to get refered a specialist?) I won't need the muscle relaxer anymore, it doesn't do shit for my neck but it helps me sleep instead of tossing and turnign trying to get comfortable.

57. I was diagnosed with a disorder
I took 35 pills a day at one time on top of several monthly IV medications and 2 injections.
At one time I wanted to change to a different asthma medication, my doc was involved in a research study--he said I was too sick to take off of my current medication.
I had SUPERB insurance.
My docs loved it.
Anyway, long story short...insurance changed, got wayyyyy to expensive to maintain the doctor-patient relationships, so I decided to cut out some of my meds. I did it slowly to make sure I didn't get ill. Finally phased every bit of it out a year or more ago.
I took 2 Tylenol last month--that was my last medicine.
Funny thing was after I quit taking the medicine, I didn't feel any better or any worse than I did taking it, however, had alot more money. I even quit my asthma medication (I certainly don't recommend this for everyone--just worked for me).
I did take CoQ-10 to boost my immune system, Glucosamine Chondroiten for my joints, Vitamin E, Calcium, Aloe Vera, DHEA, Slow Mag and papaya enzyme when I was stopping the prescription drugs.
I was then phased it all out.
I found that spending hundreds of dollars a month on doctors and medicines, I got sick 3-4 times a year.
I found that spending nothing on doctors and medicines, I still got sick 3-4 times a year.
I guess it is all relative. I don't regret my decisions at all.

58. I'm 52, closing in on 53
and don't take any meds. Some folks tell me I should be taking hormone replacements but I think I'll pass on them. It's not really an issue and so, why start if you don't need them?

59. If you feel fine you don't need hormone replacements
http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/whi/

The doctors started taking as many women off of hormones as they could and reducing dosages after this study was released.
If you aren't having menopausal symptoms--I would avoid them.
They do make some herbal menopausal medications, Black Cohosh and Remifemin are a couple that docs recommend.
Good luck.

60. I don't want to even start takng the 'natural' stuff
if I don't need it. Occasionally I get hot flashes but that's about it. A cold washcloth works wonders for those.

66. Nothing too extreme.
Nasonex (nasal spray), vitamins, oral contracptives (i.e. the pill), and ibuprofin as needed for headaches (Imitrex if it's a migraine which I get only a couple of times a year or less thankfully) and cramps.
