Is this not... wrong?
Edited on Tue May-24-05 01:56 PM by GirlinContempt
When I signed up for phone service, they got all this ID from me, and asked me if anyone else was allowed to make changes to the account. I said "No."
I've since decided I want CallID and Call Answer Lite (only a couple of dollars, only stores 5 messages).
I call in to order services.
It's automated. I just punch in my phone number and press 2 for this or 6 for that, and they add it to my bill.
Wha??
No ID. No one making sure this is me.
Someone could just call in and order like, $50 worth of calling features for me, and I wouldn't know until I got a bill!
That seems... wrong.

1. Just a guess
but did you make this call from the phone line being charged? That may be the ID needed.

Of course, if you have some friends over and someone decides to order you a bunch of services from your own phone, they could still do that.

3. That *could* be the case
but I would think that because I said "no one else is authorized" that wouldn't be enough.

I work in a call center, and even if the guy I'm talking to has ALL of the account information and ID info, if the account says 'no one else auth' and his name isn't "Mrs. Julia Smith" or whatever, he can't touch it.

Kinda bugs me a lil

2. Could be when they meant changes they only meant provider changes
Like who'll be your long-distance carrier or regional carrier.

This is where most of the problems occur.

4. There is no other provider in my city
I don't know what they ment, but I don't like the idea of just anyone being able to do that.
I don't trust my room mate :P

6. Companies with automated systems use caller ID recognition to determine...
...the source phone that is calling to make an inquiry or change service
requirements.

9. Another person would have to call from your phone number to change ...
...service or make an inquiry and this would not be likely.

10. Yeah, it would.
I have a room mate. And when I was setting up the service the woman said "Do you have a partner or someone living with you that you'd like to authorize to make changes to your bill?"
And I said "I have a room mate, but I don't want him authorized to make any changes"
Then she said "Alright, so no one else is allowed"
