Vegas, baby! (100 years old)

ginbarn and I at the world-famous sign on Las Vegas Boulevard, just south of Mandalay Bay and across the street from a tourist bureau if you ever want to visit.

"What happens here, stays here." Hey, I got another one for you: "What money you bring here, stays here."

We had a lot of fun, though. Unknown to us, this weekend is Las Vegas' 100th birthday, so we got to take part in some of the Centennial celebrations. More on that later!

Sorry but it must be the place where with the poorest taste anywhere. Hope I didn't insult you in case you are from Vegas.

when I was there (with my ex-husband) it was unbelievably hot and windy (in March), bright, and just plain tacky. I'd prefer to enjoy that same ambiance in a more natural setting, like Key West, or Milano or Zürich or Jamaica.

3. We got married there five years ago
You'd be surprised. There are actual tidbits of culture in LV, but you have to know where to look.

It is a huge theme park, though, but it's been like that ever since the 1930s. It's a city that constantly reinvents itself - sometimes not for the better; as in the destruction of Desert Inn and the addition of dancing showgirls to the Treasure Island pirate ship fight - but it still manages to build some small sense of continuity with its past, which I think is pretty cool.

We're from Dallas, BTW. Not native to Vegas. No problem.
