Portishead
Sorry, but I love Phead enough to give Beth her own thread. Any Pheads here?

3. To be honest, I loved the first album
but never listened to them again, for no particular reason. Feel free to offer suggestions.

5. WHAT... the second album
Is very different... more experimental and has a strange sense of the otherwordly, sad, sexy, even industrial feel to it. Best song is Over.

7. Well if you like Portishead
Then you should definitely check out the electronic music scene. I love it. Of course I love many different genres, electronica just being one. Anyhow, check out Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation, Unkle, Diplo, DJ Shadow, DJ Spooky, DJ Tiesto, ATB, Paul Van Dyk, Meat Beat Manifesto and also Jack Dangers solo, Luke Vibert, Old school MC 900 Ft. Jesus, The Chemical Brothers, Tricky, DJ Armin Van Buuren. I could go on. :)

Take a listen...

13. In the 80's I used to buy albums from 900 Ft. Jesus
at VVV Records down in the Oak Lawn district of Dallas. I had no idea 900 Ft. Jesus, aka Mark, was even into recording music. Then one day I walk in, I ask where he is and the employees look at me like I am some sort of dork. "He's hit it big, man!" Blah, blah. I just wish he would consider coming back to the industry. I loved his stuff. Last I heard he still lives in Dallas and he is working on his pilot's license.

15. He strikes me (through his music anyway)
As someone who probably doesn't find the commercial music industry to be a happy scene. More power to him, whatever he does.

16. That is precisely why he left.

But given that the Internets (:)) exist, he could put some indie stuff together perhaps and sell directly to the consumer, iTunes and whatnot. Just thinking.... Hell for all we know, he is a member of DU. Hey Mark, you here? PM me. :hi:

4. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Portishead.
Incidentally, I was turned onto them while watching the ORIGINAL John Stewart show on network tv 10ish years ago. He had them on his show as musical guests. I bought their cd the next day. (Dummy)

6. I am
In complete awe of Beth's voice. Did you see the live in NYC show? She smoked the whole time, jeans, all sleepy. She has this fragility in her voice that makes no sense when you see her tough-hard appearance.

8. I didn't -
I don't even remember much about when I saw them on John Stewart - looks, band members, anything (:smoke:). I just remember being blown away, and NEEDING the album. I've never seen them perform other than then.

I'm going to have to dig that cd out tonight - I haven't listened to it in a looooooooong time.
