side of the building. Scared the living shit out of me. I hate bees, wasps, ect... anything that stings. I've made it 31 years and have never been stung. Whenever they're near, I run.

I wish I could post the pic, but here's the link.

(on edit) how the hell did the pic come up? I have no clue what I did.

4. You are lucky to have never been stung. When I was small (about

8 or 9) I got stung 12 times at once by red wasps. I got stung 6 times on the mouth and 6 times on the back. That was the worst, but during the summer I would get stung about 5 or 6 times. Where I am from everyone has been stung at least once by a bee or red wasp.

6. I've seen one of those! It's an ichneumon...docile unless you grab them
When I told my husband what I saw, he didn't believe me, so I finally found a picture of one in an insect field guide we've got. That long stinger-like thing is actually an ovipositor, and their larvae are parasites of other insects and spiders.

Cool little boogers! :D

8. "cool little boogers" is not exactly what I would call it.
Strange to see it in town too. My guess is that someone on the outskirts of town disturbed a nest or something.

On another note:

My dog is allergic to bees. A couple of summers ago, she got it really bad. Her whole face was swollen, her eyeball too, looked like it was gonna pop right out of it's socket. Normally we just pop a benadryl into her and it's all good, this time it required a trip to the vet. OOOH it was NASTY, it was all I could to not puke my guts out.

or wasps, if you prefer. Most are not even remotely interested in stinging you unless you try to catch them with your hands, or get too close to their nests...some don't even have stingers. Ichneumons can deliver a painful sting if provoked; but they'd much rather find some garden pest to lay their eggs in.

11. Have you ever been in contact with a red wasp? They will
sting for the hell of it. Seriously. Don't make any movement around them because they take it as a threat I guess.

12. I'd never heard of them before...Is this what you mean?

That's what I got when I googled "red wasp". I've never seen anything like that around here, fortunately! I was once stung by a hornet who felt I was a threat to his nest, which I didn't see. It was horrifically painful, as he stung directly on a vein on my wrist, right above my watchband, which was on the tight side. Ugh! Gives me shivers to remember it!

Where are you located? I'm terrified of aggressive bees and wasps; but I've learned that most are beneficial.

were everywhere in the spring and summer. Yes that is a red wasp and they are very aggressive. If you move too suddenly or get in their way at all, they will sting and they will sting more than once if they feel the need. I've been stung several times by red wasps and bees, and they do hurt, although, you tend to get used to it. You kind of had to.

7. Maybe you got stung by a bee or wasp, that is what happens to me
if I get stung. The area swells up and then it will go down. Putting tobacco on the spot will help get out the poison.
