***UPDATE*** Child's Post-Surgical Recovery, May 11, 2005
Hi all,

Just got an update from my co-worker who stays in touch with the child's mother...

This morning the doctor has started the process of weaning the child off of morphine, and will administer Tylenol in its place.

The mother said that with the child's clothes on, hiding the incisions, you can hardly tell anything happened.

If things keep going well, the child and mother could be home by the end of the day tomorrow.

Over the next several months, they will monitor the toddler for signs of brain damage or other impairments. So far, no obvious signs, but with things like this, long-term prognosis is an ongoing matter. Considering the amazing recovery so far, a cautious but firm optimism is not out of place.

THANK YOU AGAIN, DUers!!! :loveya:

Love,
ZW

2. Oh that's wonderful! Signs of hope!
The child is young and still possesses the ability to heal well. He/she is still in my prayers.

I missed the first thread as I'm a bit busy with work this week, but I am replying now so I can review tonight at home.

Glad to see the child is doing well so far.

As the father of a 26 month old, I get worried sick over my daughter getting sniffles. I can only imagine how I'd be if something serious happened. So, I will keep this child in my thoughts.

Please keep us posted.

Edited - I read the original post from Friday, and the follow-ups. I almost had tears in my eyes here at work. At such a young age, they have no idea.

I had read the original thread but missed the updates. I am glad that he made it through surgery alright and doesn't seem to have any problems.

14. This is just wonderful news.
My heart has been aching for the little boy and his family, and every time I think about it, I start to cry (probably because falls are such a heart-gripping fear of mine).

I will continue to think of this family and send my best wishes for a 100% recovery for him.

15. Wonderful news!
A fall like that can easily be fatal. With a little luck the child will have no long-term effects.
