This is your big chance to be a Senator!! Vote on bills, debate and play the political game--all for free and all online! I started playing an online Senate simulation back in January and it is a hoot!

I stared it, primarily to keep my chops in good shape on debating the issues. Much as I love DU, I was concenred that I was not exercising my debate skills. Some of the Right-wingers on that sim keep me amused, lemme tell you! Some are just idjits, but others are sincere, and don't know any better.

We need Dems on that board. I'm running for the Presidency (a pretty progressive platform, btw!) and I need more Dems to work with. Sign up now, and you can vote for me as the President in the upcoimng elections. My competition is a pretty right wing guy, so it is a chance to smack down an uber-comservative. What bigger motivation can you ask for?

You will get a confirming E mail, and you need that to get logged in that first time.

Once you are logged in, so to the Office of the Clerk (one of the forums) and check the Senate roster thread for what states are open. Once you figure out an open state (any with less than three) you start a thread in that forum headed Signing IN. Give your Senator name, the State you will be representing, and the party you are with (I hope DNC!) After that, go down to the Dem HQ and sign in there so we can greet you and get you signed up for Committee work. Tell them you got recruited at DU and they'll know what's up...

6. FYI...

Just a FYI to people registering with AOL accounts: AOL is blocking all emails origininating from the simulation, claiming that it is a "chronic spammer" sccording to their records. Which would be fine, except that it's my domain and I've never sent anything out other than stuff from the sim on it.

So, if you do find yourself waiting and waiting for an email confirmation, please send an email to [email protected], and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

7. Doug--Good to see you here at DU!

You've become an "Evil Duer" and that is a way cool thing to be! It never occured to me that I might be recruiting for DU as well as for the USSS!

We have a fair number of DUers from both Alaska as well as from TN on here. You may find a few folks who are either close to you or who have had similar experiences with transplanting to new climes.

If you have time to poke around a bit you'll find a lot of good stuff in the General Discussion forum on the Dem candidates (fair warning--it can be a bit intense in there!) as well as in the Late Breaking News forum and the various issues forums.

I love the Senate sim a lot, but DU is my online home. This place has kept me sane during Shrub's occupation of the WhiteHouse. Enjoy!

Actually, I was a member here before (I believe Joel and I once recruited some people from DU, including you), but I couldn't remember my login for the life of me, and just decided to create a new one rather than spend hours pouring through old emails and lists trying to find the info...
