Coldplay, Beatles share chart feat
Band's new single 1st since 'Free as a Bird' to debut in top 10

Coldplay became the first British band since the Beatles to score a single debut in the U.S. top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, the music magazine said on Friday.

The single, "Speed of Sound," opened at No. 8 on the chart, which ranks sales and airplay, making Coldplay the only other U.K. band besides the Beatles to register such a hit.

The shame of it is, I was a fan of their last CD, but I don't think "Speed of Sound" is a very good song. Oh, well. Score one for wuss rock, anyway.

1. It does sound a bit like they're ripping themselves off, but
even a bad Coldplay song is a good song.
