3. It wasn't as good as I expected...
Fell flat on occasion, poor acting from some of the actors. Good movie over all, but not great.

4. Saw it just this last weekend first night.
I thought it was great, and I enjoyed watching it. The audience seemed to enjoy it also, although some of the fans of the book grumbled about inconsistencies with the story and the film. Good thing I didn't read the reviews before. The San Francisco Chron and some of the other local papers slammed it.

7. Very witty and enjoyable
I couldn't figure out why my SO was bringing a towel with him to the theater, but I did get it eventually. I thought it was a very clever movie - never read the books, though.

8. Can't wait to see it
I just hope it's still in theaters when I get to an area that has one.

I was happy to see it was the number one release when it came out. Hopes for the sequel!

10. Pretty dang good!
After seeing the TV series, hearing the radio version and reading the books a few times, it's hard not to be a little critical. But I'd have to say they did a pretty good job. Not too Hollywoodish. A couple of oddities I didn't go for but I'd still give it two thumbs up.

Definitely a sequel or two in the future.

Douglas would be pleased I think.

13. Well, it was NOT the book
but i expected that. i walked away with guarded satisfaction; it had enough of the funny bits straight out of the book to save it.

WAAAAAAYY to much plot meddling, though. Who the hell was that government lady? and why the vogons chasing them? they should have put more of the word play in, and taken out unneccesary subplots.

but, it gets a b+ from me

14. Thumbs Up for Hitchhiking.
As a fan of the book, as well as a particularly critical individual regarding life, the universe and everything, I give it a favorable review.

Some have complained about the romantic subplot, but, if that's the only solid objection, it's a rather negligible one as far as I'm concerned. There were far too many laughs to be had; too much absurdity to take in all at once, for the whole movie to be tainted by one or two "slow" or "flat" scenes - both subjective terms anyway.

It does the movie very little justice to put it on the same scale of comparison with the other celluloid waste that is spinning around aimlessly in projector booths today.

16. I really enjoyed it.
It started off very similar to the original material but then added new stuff which kept me guessing what would happen next.

A very good update of a classic.

18. Better for fans than for folks new to Adams work
Edited on Thu May-05-05 07:34 AM by Maeve
Okay, I heard part of the original radio play, own the TV version and read all 5 parts of the trilogy, so I rather qualify as a "fan"...

Like the Zaphod and Trillian better than the TV actors, thought the romance worked fairly well, enjoyed the Vogan "office paperwork" scenes(look for the TV Marvin in the line!) and generally enjoyed the movie. Adams liked to mess around with his stories and be inconsistent, so that much I expected.

Oh, and the Vogan captain is a caricature of NI politician Ian Paisley. Lots of in-jokes, which is good and bad, depending on whether you're in on them or not.

updated cuz I forgot to spell check and It's too early to spell!
