1. If I wasn't completely burned out of anime
I'd be envious... I will see it when it comes to DVD I think, but I am not going out of my way this time.

2. In Hartford there's this cool arthouse theater called Real Artways which
shows films big cinemas won't (and they have a bar which lets you drink wine and beer in the theater if that's your thing.). That's where I saw Ghost in the Shell II and Tree of Palme.

You are a rare bird, though - mr. anime critic.

3. there is one sort of like that up here in Epping (I think)
called the Ioka Theater. Mostly they operate as a night club now though, which is a shame. We also have a little place called The Wilton Town Hall Theater in Wilton NH. They tend to reserve a screen for indie and non-mainstream flicks, but as far as I know, haven't shown any anime.

The reason I burned out of anime was that, as a reviewer, I was receiving 6-10 titles every two weeks from Geneon, Manga International, and ADV Films, and the sheer volume of crap finally outweighed the even moderately good.

The first three episodes of Stellvia was my breaking point. I just couldn't deal with another angsty 13 YO girl series, an angsty boy and his giant mecha series, or an angsty psychic/vampire hunter series.

I only received a few feature films in my time as anime editor, but even these were only so-so. Submarine 007 was boring, and I never liked the Patlabor series or films...

Anyway, I am still anime editor, but I now review only live action stuff, mostly older Yakuza crime dramas and the occasional horror flick.

Steamboy does look cool though, and I like Otomo's work.

i WANT to love it. Oh well - Blood the Last Vampire was their redemption.

It must be tough, though. Could be worse - you could be a manga critic :scared:
