My sister bought me her memoir One More Time just a few months before my total meltdown. While in hospital (mental) I watched hours of late-night Carol Burnett re-runs, and read and re-read her book. Coping mechanisms.

Years later I drove up to Hollywood to see the apartment building in which she grew up.

I love Carol Burnett like no other person I've never met before.

4. Glad to hear it--she sounds like just a wonderful person....
...they had a Carol Burnett marathon on Nick at Nite a while back--I watched them over and over. Love her!

I also read One More Time--best show biz memoir ever!

6. That's right...moved with her grandmother to Hollywood when she
was very young...she had parents who really weren't capable of being parents, but she's very understanding of them. Guess the original idea was to join her parents in Hollywood.

Lives in Santa Fe now, fyi.

7. I had the privelege of meeting Carol on several occasions
I went to school with her late daughter, Carrie. She is an awesome human being. Happy Birthday, Carol!!!

She's proof you can be a success and not turn into a hateful asshole. I love her stories about her Grandma and her "Mary Poppins" bag. She sounded like a great lady.
