Smith is Catholic, and Robinson's from the South.

Discuss.

2. It was people like you who got Hoover Elected
You probably voted for Nader, too.

Here's a little piece I wrote about Al Smith

AL SMITH FOR PRESIDENT

If you didn't spend your childhood working 16-hour days in a dangerous factory, you probably have this man to thank. Few Americans have done as much to improve the lives of the working poor as Al Smith, yet when he ran for President in 1928, preachers in their pulpits warned he was "Satan" (he was a Catholic, you see). The "Right" warned that if Al Smith were elected, prostitutes and mobsters would take over the Bible Belt.

As Al campaigned around the country, Good Christian Americans threw tomatoes and eggs at him, and he lost in the biggest landslide in American History. America stood behind the candidate that promised, "Two chickens in every pot and two cars in every garage" They got the president they wanted, but instead of cars and chickens America got The Great Depression. Perhaps not coincidentally, the areas of the country that faced the worst hardships during the Depression were the places where Al Smith was treated the most shamefully.
After the election, Al Smith went on to help finish the Empire State Building project, which stands today as the tallest building in New York City, 7th tallest building in the world.

The "Right" warned that if Al Smith were elected, prostitutes and mobsters would take over the Bible Belt.

7. Prostitutes and Mobsters
The right wing goes out of their way to bend over and take it from a Bushco Whore, and who would have guessed it would have been the "Cuban Mafia"?

The would have been better off with garden-variety mobsters and prostitutes, like Al Smith would have brought.
