Parents: a question about spending $$ on kids
I have been talking to a local-ish gym about prices for cheer tumbling classes for my team. They charge $18 for 1 & 1/2 hours. I think that sounds very reasonable, but want to check with other folks in the know. Is that a good price for a tumbling class? It's an open class and not a private group lesson. I don't have enough girls to be able to do a private class.

Would you drive an hour and a half round trip and pay $18 for the class plus gas so your kid could take tumbling lessons?

Thanks!

1. I think the price is reasonable
It is the drive that would get to me. In my current stage of life, I couldn't imagine doing a drive like that. My husband is gone most of the week, and my kids are all doing multiple things. I work full time - albeit from home, but time is a precious commodity here, mainly because of the kids' school schedules.

Just my $.02

2. Yeah, I am worried the drive will be a sticking point. But on the
up side, they could carpool and then too, our town is so tiny we don't have much for stores so this would be a chance for a parent to get some shopping done.

3. Well, in that case. I say go for it.
I would certainly welcome any opportunity to go shopping!!!

5. well
How old is she? Does she really desperately want to do it? Can you pay for individual classes or is there compulsory attendence required?

Don't you think she might get wicked dizzy after tumbling for a whole hour and a half?

Sounds like something she could do with friends and without a whole lot of supervision on a lawn or in a park. But I'm really pragmatic and not really knowledgable about these sorts of things.

Yet if she really wants it and you don't mind the commitment of time and money, then driving a kid somewhere on a regular basis can be a great thing 'cause they have to talk to you. They're trapped in the car with you. I've had some of my greatest conversations with my kid in the car.

6. I would do it, if my child wanted to go
We did something similar when my kid was younger.

Most of the working moms didn't have the time for the drive. Some of stay at home moms couldn't afford the fees.

How we solved it so all the kids could go was have the parents who didn't want to drive chip in extra money. The extra money paid for the driving parents' kids to attend the events & the gas.
