My (plump and painfully shy) niece will soon need interviewing clothes.
I thought I'd send her a fat gift certificate for a graduation gift, so she could buy clothes. But my sister said she'll have to make the girl's clothes because it's easier than shopping with her. When I suggested she use Land's End because you can custom order clothing there, my sister asked me if she could specify the girl's demands to Land's End. Here they are:

low waist, but it doesn't matter because i wear them below that anyway or they bug me

must have the rivet type button, but only at the top and a strong zipper (no button fly)

no sissy buttons cuz they just come off because of the way i wear my pants

no pleats, but i don't like flat front

the width at the ankle must be the same as the width at the thigh - straight leg means STRAIGHT LEG

hem doesn't matter, it'll just get chewed up when they drag on the ground anyway

lots of pockets which i'll never use, ditto belt loops

must be black and thick like denim, but please, no denim

no form-fitting of any kind - i refuse to acknowledge my figure

:banghead:

1. The no pleats is a good rule for her.

It might make her look poochier. But otherwise-is there some way that you can go out there and take her shopping-maybe to a decent place that sells clothes for girls her age(and somewhere near her size)? Maybe if she actually sees that younger girls who are larger can still dress fashionably and hide their figure flaws she might be willing to take their advice on some nice styles for herself.

(edit: spelling)

3. Um. Best bet is "military twill" or "cavalry twill" in cotton.
Only fabric I can readily think of that's close to denim in weight and strength, yet not denim. Harder to find trousers in this fabric with riveted rather than sewn buttons, but it can probably be done.

a young, big girl's dream of a clothing store. I guarantee, she will find something she likes.

Bella, who is a hip BBW herself, although much older.

Edited to add the link:

7. Do they sell bras?
My pants and skirts are fine-I can buy them anywhere. But I have a really hard time picking up bras and button front shirts-I am really top heavy and it is a pain. I tend to shop in the plus size area for my button front shirts(which I am required to wear at one of my jobs).
I will check this link out later.

8. Yes they sell everything...
Don't think they sell every single size though. They go up to 28 in regular clothes -- don't know about bra sizes.

9. I am a triple D (sometimes they refer to it as an F cup)
I cannot fit into regular tops-they gap at the buttons so I usually have to buy a plus size top. I am so tired of the "old lady" look that I get stuck w/!

10. I told my sister about it and she said she thinks the girl will actually
like their stuff. A store is opening in a mall near them soon. Thanks, Bella!

5. Good Luck on her shopping
the best thing to do is to get her something that'll make her feel good just putting it on. That is worth big bucks right there. and I think Torrid's, or another clothier who specialises in clothing for big beautiful gals is the best place to start.

6. My best advice.............
Give her a gift certificate to Lane Bryant, by far the best clothes for the larger woman and they are somewhat trendy as well. The other thing I would sugest is buying the first What Not To Wear book by Trinny and Suzanna, their advice is dead on right.

11. I got a couple of links foryou to fashion for big women
These are links pages - you will have to go hunting for what you want:

http://www.dimensionsmagazine.com/links/fashion.html

http://www.abundancemagazine.com/resources/fashion.html

I think these two sites have the most comprehensive lists of online resources for the fuller figure.

Good luck
