Has anyone ever been on a game show?
I always wanted to be on a game show. Share your experiences. What have you won?

My friend Kevin from H.S. went on the Price is Right.
He lost his game but then spun the big wheel and made it to the bonus round and won a trailer!

23. No, this was the one in Rochester, NY...
...I want to say it was Don Alhart who hosted it (this was the mid-70's), but I'm not positive.

24. Hey -- I went to college in Fredonia...I have a lot of friends from
Rochester. As a matter of fact, my mom graduated from the University of Rochester nursing school.

I used to watch the Los Angeles bowling for dollars as a Navy brat living on Guam. We had an LA cable system. I went to middle school and high school in Potsdam, NY.

3. I Couldn't be On Quiz Shows When I Was a Kid
Back then, most of the game shows that were taped in New York were on NBC. My dad worked for RCA, which owned NBC. And all their shows and contests always stated "Employees of NBC, RCA, and their famililies are not eligible."

:-(

4. My brother, the doctor,
who is a very smart guy, no question about that, was in LA one day and thought he would waltz in and get a slot on Jeopardy. He didn't make it past the qualifying test! Ha ha!

6. Auditioned for two of them...
Got the highest score in both auditions, but was evidently too unsightly to be invited on.

Two stories--in the Jeopardy audition, one of my fellow contestants was a professional psychic who got every single question wrong.

The other audition wasn't for Jeopardy (forget what it was for), but it kept running into the same problem:

The producer's assistant would ask "What building did King Kong climb in the 1933 movie of the same name?"
And one of us would ring in and shout "What is the Empire State Building?"

And he would start swearing "Dont' fucking say 'What is'! Just give the fucking answer!" --at one point somebody said they had trouble with that on the air.

"Who was Sherwood Forest's legendary archer?"
"Who was Robin Hood?"
"Goddamn it! How many times do I have to tell you?"

He won some 35mm cameras on the the items for bid, came within one digit from winning a Ford Focus. He ended up getting the piggy bank.

13. A college buddy was on "Jeopardy" for a couple of shows. He won
a total of $9,000. He would have won more, though, if he could have just heard me screaming the CORRECT answer to that final Jeopardy question. . .

14. my best friend was on "Wheel of Fortune"
unfortunately, he didn't win a car-

the reason that it was so unfortunate, was that i was minding his car for him while he was in SoCal. To save on parking/limo fees, i met he and his wife at o'hare- they went to their plane, i left in the car(i took the el to the airport), and was to meet them back there 4 days later.
two days later, i had car trouble of my own, as in dead battery, so i drove his car to work, only i didn't get to work- i totaled his car when i t-boned an 84 year-old man who made an illegal left-turn into my path on his way to his job as a cashier at a car-wash(for which he commuted 35 miles each way).

they had a fun plane ride back- amazingly, they were that only two passengers on an American Airlines flight from L.A. to Chicago, and they had a blast with the crew.
it helped soften the downer effect for when i met them at the gate with the news.

21. I qualified to be on "Jeopardy!" back in 1997.
They were holding tryouts in Seattle, and I qualified as an alternate; that means if they call you to be on the show within a year of qualifying, you get to go to L.A. for the taping. If they don't call you within a year, you have to try out again.

They never called me. :(

25. Yeah, I got fucked over by Soupy Sales
on the $10,000 Pyramid (the $$$ tells you how old THIS story is! ;-))
Gave him the clue "chicken ___ soup" and he simply REFUSED to go for it.
I knew he was trying to get me eliminated so I got esoteric... "THINK! Use your ___." Blank stare. "Everything he plays sounds like a scale exercise! All he does is ___." BLANK STARE. BEEP!!! I "won" a box of "beauty products" ALL of which were allergens for me...
