A very kind rant to folks with Computer problems......

...who ask for help from the "Tech Folks" here on DU/DU Lounge.

I've noticed people sometimes ask for help here about Computer Problems and such.
It's a good thing....and the techs here (including myself) love to solve
problems and solve the mystery of your hassles.

BUT...We do ask this:
Please include the following information when asking for help:

1. Type of computer ...Mac...PC ?
2. Operating system Windows 95...98..XP ....Linux ?
3. Brand of computer
4. speed of processor
5. Amount of Ram 32, 64, 128, 256 ?
6. Exactly when did problem start (Well, everything worked great until I installed Norton Anti-Virus)
7. If problem is at start-up, What does your screen say? or do you hear your computer give "Beep codes" IE: one short beep, two long beeps..ETC...
If you don't know all the information, just give or find out what you can...

I'm not "dissing" anybody but We techs can give much more reliable info if we know what you're (We) are dealing with.

to answer these questions. The last time I asked something, something the customer service people and the tech people for my OS could not answer, I was told here that I was too stupid to be using a computer. Thanks for being nice but I thnk I will just stumble along by myself.

I apologize for any "Put Downs" you've encountered in the past.
Most Techs are very kind, helpful people and in reality,
see computer problems the same way as a person who reads good Mystery novel sees them.

Ah!...a Mystery...I want to solve it!....It's in our nature :)
