That's right--for months, they dunned me for ten cents until I sent them a check!

28. I envy you - I just found out I had one outstanding.
My parents took it out for me when I was 16 and went to university - on their credit, not mine. However, when they declared bankruptcy the next year, one of the things they wrote off - and part of the settlement, which they neglected to tell me about - was that the loan was transferred to me.

I paid off the others, quite happily. This one has knocked around for 12 years, and only attached itself to me this year.

I'm utterly annoyed about it, but I can't think of any way to deal with it other than pay it.

Congrats! That's got to be a nice feeling...not having that financial Sword of Damocles hanging over you. :-)

32. Yaaaaaaaay, you!!! You are now part of a small select group of admirable
people who still have a conscience. It took me 11 years to pay off a student loan. Breaking free of those chains is really something. :hi:

on my 20-year defaulted student loan. Defaulted because I was laid off in George HW Bush's economy, couldn't find a job, lost my apartment, and they wouldn't defer the damned thing...

37. Awesome!
I was lucky that I had a tuition scholarship, so I had only $5,500 in loans after my bachelor's degree. I paid it off last year. My husband as probably $25,000 in student loans so far. He consolidated it, and we've been paying the minimum on it each month. We are probably going to have another $60,000 worth in students loans because my husband is most likely going to be doing a post-baccalaureate program. We've also got a $7,600 car loan too. Yippee!

39. I am the co-signer on my late wife's student loan,
I still have about 12 months worth of payments left. No point in paying it early, as I have to pay all of the interest owed anyway, nice little pre-payment clause and all.

There is something definitely cruel about paying for a dead person's college education.
