someone to put him in jail...just wonderful!! He needs to be reported to MADD or some other group that will publicize this guy BEFORE he kills someone. That is a disgrace.

50. Yes, a misdemeanor
Most of the cases I work with in the municipal probations office are DUIs. If they're already on probation for DUI and they get a new DUI charge, they will usually spend some time in jail. (I just had a case like that where the person got sent to jail for 30 days on a second DUI.)

31. I have no doubt it is one!
When I was hit by a drunk driver downtown Seattle back in '98, she had a BAC of .23, according to the police report.

She was able to pick up her wrecked car the next day at the pound. Her name was Karen Bush, by the way... must be related.

I do not understand why WA state is so soft on drunk drivers. It is one area I subscribe to mandatory sentencing, for a long, long time. The legal limit when she hit me and my friend (his vehicle) was .10. :wtf:

I am so sorry about this Lisa. I feel like I broke my promise to you that 2005 will be better. I hope this is the worst thing that happens this year.

You know, we're doing okay. It's started to sink in now. Glad I've been paying for so much insurance all these years.

The drunk-driving threshhold now is .08 - this guy was WASTED according to the police and witnesses. He should go to jail for this - if only to teach him a lesson and get him into treatment before he kills someone...

45. Yep!
The lowered it to .08 just 6 weeks after I was hit. I don't think it made much of a difference.

Some people never learn their lessons. It seems there is an inversely proportionate relationship between the shamefulness of one's actions and the level of shame they feel from them.

I think Washington State is too soft on DUIs as well. Some of the police reports I've read are about people who can hardly stand up, much less drive...I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands when I'm on the road now, especially just after bar time. :scared:

I already knew when I was hit, that the legal limit wouldn't go up until New Year's 1999. But her BAC was .23, so I guess it was moot.

She got off easy, as all people named Bush do.

They were having a special wine dinner. It's a miracle of miracles that he hit our closed-for-the-night store and not the restaurant. He could have killed a lot of people.

He didn't do any major structural damage, other than put holes in the wall, destroy our storefront, etc. All of that is fixable, and our landlord has been great about it. They're trying to get it done this week. No business interruption yet.

And they lock those people up for life.

I think the same should be true with pathologic Drunk Drivers.

After your 4th DUI, you go to prison with a life sentence, no parole.

Same for psychopaths, whom science is convinced there is no cure for, as there might be for repeat DUI offenders.

These multiple offenders should be taken off the street and placed in a minimal security facility for the rest of their lives. I'm sorry, but after your third time, it's not a thing you are willing to change and those people don't belong in society any more, no matter what their sob story might be.

81. the kid with all the tickets...his father is a lawyer...so I suspect the
number of tickets I mentioned is heavily understated. I think the kid is a psychopath. I have personally watched him lie through his teeth every time I have ever talked to him.

I think I agree on locking people up for long terms or putting one of the ankle bracelets on them so parole people know where they are.

We've already got the replacement fixtures on order. We carefully went through all of our inventory and have a comprehensive list. Our insurance has told us they'd cover our inventory loss, loss of business and any loss of wages.

It's been an incredible project.

This guy seriously needs to get help so he doesn't ever drive drunk again. :(

In fact, that's one of the first things we said when it was all said and done.

All in all, with damage to 10 fixtures, merchandise and the front window, it can pretty easily be replaced and/or fixed. It just will take a while. As soon as we can get our window back in, that will be really helpful, obviously...

64. I'm glad you're alright and nobody was hurt.
This state is way overdue in toughing lax DUI laws. Do you remember that flap last week on 710KIRO about that woman who went to jail for three days because her(gentile lab)dog ran through the neighborhood while that supreme court justice (WA state) got absolutely no jail time for DUI? It seems that our 'blind' system of justice has it's scale tipped. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not excusing the dog running through the neighborhood, but, which would you like seeing coming to wards you? A dog caring a stick that wants to play 'fetch' or a SUV being driven by a drunkard?

65. Definately put this on HIS insurance not yours!
There's no reason for YOUR insurance premiums to go up after this...but that could easily happen unless you go after his Liability insurance for all it's worth. Your insurance agent can try to be cool and understanding...unfortunately, your insurance agent doesn't make up the formulas that can be used to determine your insurance rates in the future.

We're all going to be facing some pretty harsh economic conditions in the next few years, and I sure don't want any thing else added on to your burden. :pals:

77. Oh, it's on his insurance all right
He's barely covered, as mandated by state law. So our insurance co. will have to sue his insurance, and around and around. Oh, the fun.

74. any chance you can sweep up, bag, and empty the glass in his yard?

Or maybe print up a flyer and slip in in all of his neighbors' mailboxes and warm them that he's a repeat drunk driver and to be careful to not let their kids out at night, etc.
Remember, it's only libel if it ain't true.

76. Oh, man.
I'm glad no one was hurt, but that sucks. I also can't believe he's not in jail.

My step mother would be horrified at these pics. She collects Lladro. After the initial shock and sympathy for you, I thought of her.

78. Wow.
I wonder how the light on the overhang, the one on the left, ended up getting cracked. You know?

So sorry honey! Glad the insurance will take care of the heavy stuff. Sorry for all the nightmarish round and round.
