3. Patton..
If Rommel's supply line could've been maintained by the Kriegsmarine, Montgomery would've been a loser.

4. Who voted Montgomery?
Somone here thought that Montgomery was better.

:sarcasm:
I guess he's praising Montgomery's Market garden which we all know was an enormous success.

7. Patton, of course. Monty was the George W. Bush of Allied commanders.
Arrogant little f***wit.

Patton may have had massive imperfections, but the man was a military god. He thought like the Germans' best (and, overall, the Germans had the best): Guderian, Rommel, etc. Maybe Monty was nothing more than a symbol of the more rigid thinking that prevailed in the British establishment at the time...the Germans took the ideas of great miltary thinkers of the day (and, of course, all the way back to Sun Tzu) and ran with them whereas the Brits were still (figuratively) standing line-abreast in red tunics in an open field.

Always thought Schwarzkopf did a nice little tribute to Patton in Gulf War I, with his Hail Mary move, though things could have gone considerably worse (for everyone) were it not for a hefty dose of luck.

8. Patton for sure
He realised what advantages he had and he pressed them.

Monty didn't press. He didn't want to take risks and suffered because of that.

When you have overwhelming airpower, overwhelming material and overwhelming mobility, fighting set-piece battles only helps your opponents.

It's hard to really say how good Patton really was though because the enemy he faced was so shackled by such overwhelming disadvantages.

However, he was sure lots better than Monty.
