NFL Trade rumor: Rivers to 49ers for #1 pick
San Diego winds up with 3 first rounders to add to a division championship team and doesn't really sacrifice much, considering Brees has worked out for them

San Fran gets a quarterback rated far higher than any QB prospect in this year's draft, plus Rivers has already had a year in an NFL system, meaning he'll be ready sooner.

I think this is an amazing trade that has some great potential for the Chargers. They could get a star receiver (Braylon Edwards) and shore up their defense all at once.

1. That sounds like a good deal for both teams
and for Rivers as well. He'd have to have one hell of a preseason to get the job from Brees. Its great to see a team (Chargers) working to better their chances for the future.

2. Let's not get carried away here.
A lot of San Diego's talent would still be very young, and last I checked, the Patriots are still one hell of a team. I think they'll unseat the Colts/Steelers' as the heir to the Pats' throne, however, and if this deal goes through, they would be a force to be reckoned with.

4. that doesn't make sense
I heard on ESPN that some quarterback projected to go No. 1 overall had the best combine workout of any quarterback since Troy Aikman.

Why trade that pick for some reject from another team. If Rivers was so hot I'm sure SD would keep him.

5. Is this a rumor you heard, or are starting?
I doubt the Niners give up their #1 for a single player. Rivers has been on a team for a year, but hasn't proven anything. It's still a gamble. I'd bet that the Niners go ahead and take Rodgers out of Cal. They understand the value of a hometown hero when it comes to putting butts in the seats.

7. Rivers is higher rated than any QB in this draft
according to ESPN Insider Scouts.
