Who has neighbors that they absolutely hate?
I do. The people next door piss me off every day. They're always screaming at each other during the night, and their yard looks like a friggin trash heap. Half of my zen-like lawnwork time is spent picking up the crap that has blown over from their yard. I've even had to pick up shitty diapers from my back yard.

The dad owns a monster truck with rebel flags all over it, and the kids keep trying to bum smokes off of me. I'm tellin' ya, I would leave a flaming shitsack on their porch if I thought they would notice.

The only saving grace of the dad is that he's a convicted felon who can't vote. (He crashed into someone while drunk and on a suspended license) He's afraid that his guns are going to be taken away.

Sorry to rant, but I just got done picking up Taco Bell wrappers from the front yard.

1. Ooops, sorry about the Taco Bell wrappers...
Do we really keep you up? Damn, sorry about that too.
It is not really a monster truck, and well, sorry, but my family mostly wore grey in the War of Northern Aggression.
And it was not a felony... only a misdermeanor, so there.

But, seriously.
I have neighbors on both sides of me we can not stand. Same kind of crap. Plus one of them threatened to kill my cats if they "crapped on his lawn." That was his response to me coming to his door with a missing cat flier.

What an asshole.
At least the one on the other side took the flyer, said sorry to hear about it, and was polite.

9. I'm extremely lucky in my neighbors...
From the newly-wed 20 somethings to the 83 year old artist, they're all wonderful. We trade food, keep each others pets, celebrate holidays and everyone gets along wonderfully. Did I mention, my partner and I are gay men and none of our neighbors are gay? Or that we live in rural Mississippi?

Am I lucky or not?

14. I'm lucky, too...

Retired couple on one side, pretty nice folks on the other (they moved in recently and replaced some really strange ones). The only issue I can think of is that the 'newer' neighbors have a Pomeranian, and though I am a dyed-in-the-fur dog lover, its barking can drive me batty sometimes. I have a large barking-prone dog, but the second she barks, she's inside. Not so with the Pom, I don't think they notice it anymore! Although if that's the worst thing I have to worry about, I'll take it. No biggie.

We all went through the great eastern blackout together this year...2 days with no power and everyone got along great and helped each other out. Plus we were all sitting outside on our porches to escape the inside heat, and that helped us get to know each other better. Silver linings and all... :-)

2. I used to hate my neighbor lady...
when I was a kid. She took my football once. Bitch. I guess she's dead now. I have a new football. Life goes on.

Thinking back on it, she was a prototypical neocon. The day my family met her, she asked what religion we were. Bitch. Man, I hated that woman.

She used to complain that mud from our yard was fiendishly crawling over the mud in her yard and into her basement. She would constantly move the property marker out a little bit at a time, like anybody gave two shits about three inches of real estate.

Bitch. My guess is she would be National Security Adviser had she lived.

3. Howdy neighbor!!
LOL...

When we moved into this house our neighbors were friends with the people that lived here and they hung their laundry on the line in the backyard....somehow they believed that nothing had changed just because we bought the house and lo and behold...they hung their clothes on our line...they did not bother to introduce themselves...just hung their underwear on our line...well guess what...that line disappeared the moment they took down their laundry...and we put up a privacy fence.

They should have at minimum brought us cookies and introduced themselves to us....but no...they just hung their laundry on our clothes line!!???!!??? :grr:

4. That sounds bad
I am lucky. I don't have any bad neighbors. Just the neighbors behind me I don't understand.

I went to bed at 3 AM once. It was during the summer and I was up all night playing video games. I see the lights on in the house. For some reason every time I look out the back window there are people there just sitting in the backyard.

I get up for school at 8 AM. I see people in the backyard. I get home for lunch at noon. There are people in the backyard. I pop something in the microwave for dinner at 6 PM. There are people in the backyard.

Really unusual I say. And the lights are still on in there everytime I go to bed.

I asked my mom what the hell and she suspects they may be caretakers of some sort for a disabled person there.

5. Your neighbors are NOTHING!
My neighbor across the street gets drunk every weekend on his driveway. Speakers in the back of the pick up truck. Blasting Donna Summer on the truck stereo - so loud it shakes the walls.

Then, after dark, he sits in the dark on the side of his house which is next to the pool and terrifies women leaving the pool by making sexists remarks from the dark.

Then, in the middle of the night, he takes out his gun and "practices" by shooting into the sky across the pool area.

Weekend mornings, 7:00 AM, he takes out the leaf blower, the lawn mower, anything noisy and serenades us all with noisy lawn equipment.

Your neighbor is TAME.

6. God, the story I could tell!
I've got a genuine idiot living next door to me. A yard full of junk, trash, worn out shit from a trailer park he used to cut the grass at, and four dogs in a cage. There's a big spot where no grass grows in the back yard, which I think is from him knocking a hole in his septic tank. Three trucks that don't run, half a dozen lawn mowers, and two tractors which haven't moved in years. Plus all his "new" cars that are parked around front. I put up an eight foot privacy fence for two hundred twenty feet of the property line so I don't have to look at the mess.

7. thanks for the opportunity to complain about my neighbors
Those neighbors with the beat cars, etc. sound horrible. My neighbor in back has two young girls who apparently have not been taught to speak. All they can do is scream. They scream their heads off. They have a screened in sunroom and they are always screaming out there. It drives me nuts but it's so noisy around here anyway that I carry earplugs all the time.

Interestingly, it's only when the parents are around that the girls shriek. When the various nannies are in charge, they behave like a regular kid might.

I hate their ostentatious ways and this summer I even went so far as to put up a row of sun umbrellas to block out their house. They are always ordering new stuff, like some of the ugliest, nouveau riche furniture crap I have ever seen. Oh and please tell me why a family of four needs a Volvo station wagon, a van and a BMW? This spring they had their sidewalk knocked out and a new cobblestone one put in. No reason. The old one was fine. And they ordered the landscape team to put in a dozen or so trees and they didn't put one of them in a good place. How anyone could find stupid places for 12 trees is beyond me but they did. This fall I am having terrace walls built down the mountain and oh my, what a surprise, 10' concrete terrace walls will conveniently block them out.

One time I told their landscaper not to park alongside my property where a municipal sign said, "No Parking." They got so angry that I had the nerve to tell their landscaper to obey the law that they came on my property at 2:30 a.m. with a nasty, hysterical note telling me I had gone too far in "harassing" their "service personnel." I actually caught my neighbor sneaking onto my property with the note and when he realized I'd seen him, he ran away!

Dufuses.

Most of my neighbors are really nice, though, and I'm lucky to have them.

10. I'm currently living in a dorm
I can't say that I hate them, because their all good guys. But the noise around this place gets to me sometimes. The walls aren't insulated or if they are, not very well. There's one guy next to me who likes to crank up rap music. It makes it hard to study. Also, I like to go to bed relatively early and it doesn't seem like anybody else does and we're back to the noise factor.

16. We call our neighbor the "evil jack-in-the-box"
because she is always spying through her screened-in porch, and will jump out to scream at you if you do anything to displease her.

For example, on a hot summer Sunday we were packing up the car to spend the day at the Clearwater environmetal festival on the banks of the Hudson River. She suddenly materialized, shrieking, "Howe dare you go swimming! You need to stay home and mow your lawn!"

Her lawn is pristine, as she has weekly landscapers who she always directed to park their long truck directly in front of my driveway. When they switched their mowing time to 8:30 AM, the time I needed to drive my kids to school, I asked one of the men to kindly move the truck. My neighbor popped out, yelling, "Don't you tell him what to do!" "He is blocking MY driveway!" "It's not your driveway! It borders on my house!" I must admit I lost it and started screaming that next time it happened I would call the police. I guess that got to her, because from then on the truck was parked across the street.

17. MIne are all really nice
Actually, the guy who owns the house next door doesn't live there, and the house is a dump full of vermin and bugs that sometimes seep into our house (we live in row houses). But we are negotiating with him to buy his house, so at the moment we are happy with him. My two-door-down neighbors are so sweet, they watch our cats and water our garden when we are away. They clean up the street and watch the whole neighborhood. These two ladies live across the street and we used to call them the Nosy Ladies because they seemed to overly involve themselves in our business, but then we all started befriending local stray cats, putting out food and such, and they love us now.

Yes, I have a great little street here, right in the middle of downtown Philly. Urban living is great!

18. Some are okay, some are assholes
Next door are two cops (husband and a wife). I don't have anything against cops, but these people are simply assholes. They're rude and arrogant. There's also across the street a weird lady, no real problems, she's just weird. She had teeth missing and is agoraphobic and watches everything. Also across the stret is the neighborhood gossip queen. There's many, many good people, but these people have all gotten on my nerves at one point over the past 8 years I've lived here.

23. I'm *so* lucky--I can't complain. But I've had terrible neighbors before.
So I truly empathize with those here who do. I've had the usual late-night noise addicts, but the worst was this woman who decided to have a very public nervous breakdown. She tossed out her husband (a perfectly nice guy), and began having oddball friends come and go all night. The paramedics showed up one night to haul her out literally kicking and screaming (she nodded off while talking on the phone, and I guess a friend feared that she'd OD'd). Some nights later, the cops showed up (complete with helicopter and spotlight) to haul off some guy who'd been living in her place, and God knows what he'd been up to. It was awful -- every evening when I came home after a hard day's work, I always thought, "What kind of weirdness will it be tonight?" I suppose I should have had some sympathy for her, but she had the entire neighborhood on edge. I finally moved, and although I was pissed for *my* having to take action, it was the kindest thing I could have done for myself at the time.

I'm very lucky now -- a retired couple lives on one side, and three terrific ladies on the other, all very friendly and willing to work as a team. There's a condo in back, mostly hidden by tall trees in our yard, but the way it's built, it actually generates more privacy; only a couple of small bathroom windows face toward our house, and we never hear a thing.

Be it ever so humble.

:kick:

so far anyway. My only complaint is some neighbors of mine got into my garden and picked some tomatos right after it rained. Now I don't mind them helping themselves, I grow plenty of veggies so I can give them to friends, family and neighbors. I just wish they had waited, handling tomato plants while they are wet is not good. But all in all not neighbors I hate. Just wish they had checked with me first.

25. A chance to vent. Thank you.
I have the middle eastern couple for hell living underneath my apartment. Let's go through how they make my life hell, shall we? Yes. Good.

- When company comes to their door, they knock. And knock. And knock ever louder until someone inside answers the door. The knocking is loud and hard enough to knock things off shelves in my apartment. I kid you not.

- Their cooking is foul beyond belief. When I come home from school or work, I can smell a combination of rancid garlic and something resembling rotting human flesh coming up into my apartment. It's been bad enough to give me the dry heaves before.

- The husband routinely fights with his wife. This can occur at any hour of the day. I know they've been fighting when the door opens, the wife runs out screaming and the children run out crying their eyeballs out.

28. You have no idea...
We used to live in a peaceful, quiet neighborhood. Now it's turned into a living hell. The "new" management took over, they began to let just about everyone in and never checked any background. Now we've got people who will steal anything that isn't nailed down. Their kids vandalize cars at will--and the parents could care less. Trash piled up anywhere they can find room to put it...abandoned cars, unit appliances removed (because of damage) and dumped onto the rear lanais.

We've had people who sign a lease, move in for 3-4 months, then suddenly up and abandon their premises. While leaving their water running (flooding the other units, including ours) and plugged toilets, etc. The kids run wild, trashing anything and everything in their path, no parental supervision at all.

*sigh*

They were awful! We live in an apartment, sharing a wall, and they would stomp around at three in the morning. They would also leave their stinky leftover fish parts out in the hallway in a plastic shopping bag. Our new neighbors are much quieter, in fact, I don't think I have ever seen them....

I'd tell you the whole story but I don't have that kind of time. Plus my fingers would get sore typing. Fortunately, they moved out and no-one's living there while they fix up their dump to sell. Hopefully it'll take a year or two to get in good enough shape to put it on the market. I truly feel your pain.

P.S. We refer the the old hag that lived there as "The She-Bitch of Buchenwald."

32. We're pretty lucky
We have neighbors who are somewhat annoying, but on the whole they're great - everyone keeps their place reasonably tidy without being obsessive or anal about what others do with theirs, nobody has noisy boom-boom cars (except my own stepsons, and they know better than to do it MOST of the time around here! damn kids!), nobody infringes on others' property, etc. The Mormons next door have prayer meetings frequently in their back yard in summer, but except for the plethora of small, noisy children, that's no big deal (except when we're out using our hot tub nekkid while they're doing it -). The lady across the street is a busybody and tries to tell everyone what to do, but she means well and everyone pretty much blows her off. She's also the blockwatch captain, and a damn good choice for it, since she sees everything that goes on.

There's one neighbor I can only tolerate in very small doses - after 9/11, when our block had a little candlelight ceremony, she started in on how Father Dobson (aka James Dobson of Focus on the Fascist Family) said 9/11 happened because we were tolerating things we knew were wrong (she meant we weren't putting people like me in stocks, I think). Everyone got very quiet, including the other very religious people who live on the street, then the pastor who lives on the corner quickly changed the subject. But most of the time she's okay, too.

Hell, WE'RE probably the ones who freak the others out, with our Darwin stickers and all the Goth teenagers and their dozens of beater cars hanging around the house, and our 'lib-rul' bumper stickers and yard signs! Also, my husband's a carpentry contractor, so there's often construction materials and trailers in our driveway, which is less than lovely. But we try to be considerate neighbors, and pretty much everyone on the street is civil and polite.
