I have the voting results for Spaichingen in this book I bought. I see that they are about 60% CDU (from 1949-1988). What can/will you tell me about the other parties mentioned - SPD, DVP, KPD, SzT, FDP, NPD, DFU, DP/FVP, BHE, DG, AUD, DL? There is also Grüne getting about 5%, but I think I have heard of them. Spaichingen is probably still a Catholic town, and in our country Catholics are traditionally Democrats.

SPD is the Social democratic party. Its like the democrats with you. DVP, NPD are neo-nazi parties. FDP is a party that is mostly oriented on economic issues, always partner of the CDU in governments. The Grüne are the Greens, like the party of Ralph Nader. They are partner of the SPD in the Bundesregierung.
Here in Germany Catholics mostly vote CDU. I think :)

Teufel is CDU then. Yes, the book has a biography of him. DVP got 11.4% of the vote in 1949 when it was not so "neo". NPD got about 1-2% except in 1968 when they got 7.3%. Interesting that that coincides with the Goldwater nomination, but Spaichingen may not reflect all of Deutschland. Are the Social Democrats more like socialists or like Democrats? How conservative is the CDU? As bad as the Republicans? I did meet a banker from Bavaria in graduate school and he was pretty far right wing. Is that typical CDU?

and they are more right than the CDU.

Teufel quits after this term. Not quite sure when it will be but he will not candidate again. And Spaichingen definitely does not reflect all Germany. Social Democrats are more like Democrats. The PDS (a party that rose from the former SED - GDR party) are the socialists.
