Today is our 29th wedding anniversary.
We met while attending The University of Texas at Austin and married 18 months later during spring break. We almost didn't make it through the first year when my husband took off for California for three days but then he called and my in-laws flew me out to join him and drive back together. We learned over time that we could get through anything if we were open and honest with each other. My husband has a successful remodeling company and I teach math at a community college, though I spent the first half of our marriage as a stay-at-home mom. I didn't get my master's degree until two years ago.

We have four children. Our oldest daughter, 26, is moving to Denver next month to start a new life in a place she's always loved; our identical twin daughters, 23, live nearby; one graduated from UT and works in insurance while she contemplates law school and the other works for my husband's company; and our son, who will be 21 in May, is a Marine stationed in Japan but currently on training exercises in Korea. I'm hoping to go visit him in May!

I have a little analogy I use to illustrate the course of our marriage: In the beginning, I was a speedboat zipping up and down the river, constantly changing course at breakneck speeds with little or no plan. My husband, on the other hand, was a rowboat without oars, drifting down the river wherever the current happened to take him. Over time, we've learned and grown and brought out the best in one another. Now, we paddle down the river in a canoe; sometimes, he paddles and I steer and sometimes, I steer and he paddles ;). And sometimes, we put the paddles down and go with the flow.

Tonight, it's dinner and a movie -- at the same time -- at the Alamo Drafthouse to see "Million Dollar Baby." Next year, I think we'll take a trip! Thanks for sharing this special day with me!

11. Thank you!
I used to brag about the Queen of Analogies until I learned that analogy is a very weak form of argument! ;)

13. Yes, I really am.
But I can't say he and I have always been happy. In the last few years, I think we've both realized that unhappiness is just a part of life from time to time and that we don't have to blame each other when it happens.

Thanks!

4. Congratulations
To hear the story of a marriage which has worked out well is an example to us all.

Have a great time, and keep it up for the next 29 years.

I'm not sure we did anything special except maybe really luck out when we found each other at only age 19. We both credit each other for putting up with the other. ;)

17. Thanks!
We had a nice dinner out yesterday to celebrate our oldest daughter's birthday (we brought her home from the hospital on our third anniversary) and except for our son being gone, it was so nice to have everyone together and knowing that, in this moment in time, everyone seems really happy. If only that could last!

18. Congratulations to you, too.
At three years, you've already made it through the first big hurdle as you adjust to being married. I wish I could say it's the last one but each time you face a crisis, you hopefully learn a little more about yourself and each other.

Good luck and thanks!

And may you have many, many more! :toast:

I just have to laugh, though. When this thread was 3rd from the top, the thread titles read in this order:

OK. The Fun's over.
Oh, no! Not again!
Today is our 29th wedding anniversary.

:D

I'm in the anniversary mood. Mine is today. 25 years. 1976 was a good year, huh? 1980 was pretty good too.

32. Happy 25th!
Are you doing anything special? We went on a week-long trip to California. We rented a Mustang convertible and drove up the coast from Big Sur to the Avenue of the Giants, with a couple of days in San Francisco. It was a great trip!

We decided last night that for our 30th, we'll either go to Japan to visit our son (or wherever he is stationed at the time, if possible) or we'll go to England. I've only been to Germany for three days and my husband has never been to Europe so we're hoping to start going over there, one country at a time. ;)

Have a great silver anniversary!

We went to the new Alamo Drafthouse on S. Lamar. They had a lot of SXSW stuff going on and when we left, there was a TV news crew and a white limo. Don't know what that was all about but we're pretty sure it wasn't for us! ;)
