Poll question: Okee, pick your favorite from VH1's top 10 (of 100) greatest rock songs
found here: http://www.rockonthenet.com/archive/2000/vh1rocksongs.htm
The same site also features Rolling Stone/MTV's 100 Greatest Pop Songs http://www.rockonthenet.com/archive/2000/rsmtv100.htm, but the VH1 one features DUer favorite "Imagine" and doesn't feature the Backstreet Boys (as does the pop song poll).

The top 100 polls were compiled in 2000, by the way.

"Other" votes are kind of pointless unless you have an "in" to VH1 and a time machine, but feel free to mention it if you just can't believe that these are the top 10 or that they landed in this order. (They did; "Satisfaction" was number 1.) For my part, I'm thinking, "Hey Jude" instead of "Let It Be"? Hey, it's VH1-- we aren't talking about rocket scientists here.

Sorry, I have no idea how these were chosen, nor by whom, nor what criteria constituted a rock song, nor how U2 could have been kept completely out of the top 100. Amazing, no?

1. Hey Jude
There's no contest. The effect that that song had on people when it was released hasn't been matched.

4. Screw The Top Polls
I'm older than the "execs" and viewers of VH1.

Has to be the Beatles; seeing them in Shea Stadium when I was barely a teenager saved me from a life of polka music, Strauss Waltzes and Elvis.

Strictly an opinion, but you should have included Sgt Peppers in the poll though.

6. Went with Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone"...
so I could get the most lyrics for my one vote!

9. The Boss!
But for sure "Satisfaction" has the most familiar guitar riff in Rock 'N Roll.

10. (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
by DEVO!

Let's see, late-'70s Akron gave us:
Devo
Chrissy Hynde
Rachel Sweet
Rubber City Rebels
The Bizarros

...and nothing of note since.

11. Yeah, I was about this close to suggesting that people also vote for
the Devo version, but that's just a little bit different.
