A friend and I got jumped by about 8 guys leaving a bar one night.

I had three ribs broken along with a left arm fracture. My buddy had his nose broken and lost a few teeth.

It was not a good time.

I was in this bar parking lot waiting for my friend to get off work. I saw these squids "play fight" and carousing at the other end of the lot. It was about 3:00 am so all the bar people were gone. I saw them walking towards me and thought to myself "Oh, fuck", there was about six of them. I had my head down when one of them says "Hey you aren't supposed to be back here" When I look up, one of them sucker punches me. I scramble and make for the back door of the bar, which is locked. By that time they are on top of me and I am pounding on the door. The door opens and my friend let's me in and the squids all pile in too. The manager of the place grabs a pipe and threatens them with it and says he will call the cops. They split.

When I returned from where I was going, I noticed that the police were there, so somebody must have seen the guy getting beat up and called. From what I could see, he didn't look too bad off, but you never know.

18. Best thing to do when not in possession of a cell phone

take the nearest exit, get to a pay phone and call the police. In absence of pay phone, go into a nearby business, tell them what is happening and ask if they will call the police or if you can.

I see that you saw the police arrived. Good deal. Nowdays, with cell phones, I doubt stuff like this goes unreported, but still, better to have several phone calls about it than none.

Remember everyone reading: someday it could be you who is amazed that so many people saw what took place and did nothing.

P.S. It should probably go without saying, but the hero bit usually only works in movies. Don't do it.

19. i saw a fight last night

i live in chicago, this was near a major intersection at about 12 am.

waiting for the bus.

get on the bus, the operator says: "if you wanna watch the fight, get off the bus and watch it, i gotta go."

they can directly access emergency units.

life in the big city.

(i wonder what's in the air lately though . . .)

Being a bus driver in Chicago can't be an easy life, but that's no excuse for losing your humanity, especially if the fight is looking pretty violent (ie: more than just a few swings and there are friends to break it up).

but it was two guys beating up one.

Me, being 19, drunk, and stupid, punched one of them in the back of the neck. He dropped, and his buddy took off.

Also being 19, drunk, and stupid, I took $20 out of his wallet because I hurt my hand.

I cringe when I think of how I acted back then...
