Does a cat EVER get tired of being petted and scratched?
Seriously. Ever? My cat is really bugging me today and I have a lot to do. I checked her food and water. It's all good. She's not really a "playing" type of cat (was a rescue cat and was abused and neglected in her previous life), but she does adore what I call "the scratchin's"--loads of scratching of her head, face, back, tail, chest, belly (yeah she even likes that, I know not all cats do) you name it.

I'm wondering if they have a limit. If there's ever such a thing as too much. Somehow I doubt it. I think if I sat here for five and a half hours scratching her, she'd be FINE with that.

Ten minutes is more than enough for me. But when I stop, she stares at me with these big creepy eyes and keeps meowing loudly until I scratch her again. If I try to ignore her, she just walks all over my work and then rolls onto her back on top of it. There's no ignoring this cat.

1. Yes they do
My old calico from when I was a kid, would plop into your lap to be petted and have her ears scratched, until she was tired of it. She would signal the end of the session by BITING THE CRAP out of your hand, jumping to the floor and walking off with her tail held as high as a regimental flag......

She is just wanting attention and hugs...When my cat feels I am not giving him enough(translation:all the time), he will crawl on top of me or whatever I am doing. One time, he was sitting in my lap and he got angry because I was paying attention to the TV and not giving him his petting and cuddles.

4. But I give her SO much attention!!!
She is like the Total Cat Attention WHORE from Hell. When I go to bed at night, I FALL ASLEEP scratching her with her loud-ass purring in my ear, and she's practically sleeping on my face at that point. I wake up in the morning and the first thing I do is scratch her because she is standing on my chest demanding attention.

Alllll througout the day. That's it, I've figured it out: she's SPOILED.

Oh God, she's back. Staring at me now.

11. Cats have an entitlement fetish...
They think they deserve every moment of petting and scratching that you can give them. In that way, I guess they are like republicans. They feel they deserve it because they are there.

I love my spoiled little critters, though:)

3. Depends on the cat.
I have a tortoiseshell that will sit in your lap all day, and if you don't pet her, she'll pet herself by rubbing her head all over your hand / face / knee / whatever's close.

I also have a mutt cat siamese mix that will get overexcited or something and attack your hand if the mood strikes him. Crosseyed weirdocat. He also likes to rub his butt on you and rub his face on bare toes. Weirdo weirdo weirdocat.

9. He's the weirdest cat I've ever met...
and also my favoritest ever!

Well he's not mine (I'm a dog person), he's the Mr's... but I love him still. He's also a raging primadonna. If I so much as act as if I'll pet the other male cat, he ignores me for days, won't let me pet him, etc. Best cat we ever rescued. :)

12. My siamese has a foot/shoe fetish.
He love licking feet and old shoes. It is quite odd to wake up with a cat sucking on your toes. Maybe he needs thrapy:P.

24. My old cat Oreo would....
rub her head all over my feet. She'd purposely position her ear over my big toe, dive, and then rub around. It was like a giant ear scratch for her.

Weird, huh? But very cute.

6. Every cat is different...
My cat at home doesn't like to be petted that much, in fact he prefers to lick my hand as opposed to me petting him.

The cat at work (which I seriously want to rescue, but space limitations prevent that at the moment) loves to be petted on he other hand, and it breaks my heart whenI have to go back to work from a break (which I usually spend petting the cat) cause he starts meowing loudly and mournfully.

7. I know what you mean about the work cat, sounds like mine.
If I even barely, accidentally look her direction, or if my eyes sweep over the area she's at, she stands up, eyes all big, and starts meowing loudly like "YES?? YES?? ME??? DID YOU JUST LOOK AT ME???"

8. mine does
eventually she gets over-stimulated and goes berserk, clawing and biting... the trick is to bring her just up to that point, but know when to stop :)

16. Thunder used to do that kneading stuff.
He's passed on now, though. Clarissa doesn't do that. She's just a total attention whore. There's no such thing as too much petting, I've decided. She can't get enough. I think she was too traumatized as a young kitty.

14. My cat does.
In fact, he usually bites me if I pet or scratch him too much. I had a cat a few years ago that could never get enough petting, though.

15. Definitely!
Well...at least sometimes they're just not in the mood for it. My cat only likes to get petted after you've fed her, so until 6 o'clock rolls around she won't come near ya, then she's by you all night!

My grandma's cat is reeeeeeeeeally affectionate and seems like he can't get enough of your attention until he suddenly just jumps off you for no reason and sits there staring at you.

17. I have her twin, I think
Chloe.

She is insatiable. If I ignore her, she pokes me. She stands on my leg, if I am sitting, or marches on my leg, and she is a big cat. Then, she pokes me in the cheek!

She also loves heavy petting.

Like you're in the middle of petting the cat and all of a sudden they freak out and bite you? I thought all cats did that.

20. Yes, and they will bite or scratch you for your goodwill.
Cats are assholes and fuckwads. They have absolutely no loyalty at all. They are vindictive and mean. They toy with small, defenseless animals, birds and insects, torturing them. And they puke hairballs.

Other than that, they aren't bad.

23. I have two attention whores
I can hardly breathe when I'm around them. They have to be on me and petted constantly. They also like being petted on their bellies, but I thought that was a Siamese thing. They also meow until they are petted, and I find it difficult to outlast them, so I wind up giving in. I'd be wrapped around their little fingers if they had them!
